Clothes post baby

Since i will be home w/ baby soon, i was wondering what you all found to be the most comfy to wear after baby came?

Im finding that i have NO "lounge" clothes for hanging around the house and since i will be homebound for awhile, i need to get some comfy sweats etc. But do i buy maternity or non-maternity in a bigger size?

Thoughts?

Also- for BF moms, did you wear your nursing bras at home or go braless?

I wore my maternity clothes for about 3 weeks after having baby. Then it was a mix of some maternity and my old clothes....I fit into my pre-preg jeans at about 3 months. Now at almost 4 months, I wear NO maternity clothes and am happy to be back in my regular clothes....although there are a few pieces that are still a bit too snug to wear Chat Icon

I wore yoga pants A LOT right after having baby

ETA: When I did nurse, I wore a nursing tank under clothes (from Target--they're cheap and comfy)

Re: Clothes post baby

I got the nursing tanks in store at motherhood, but they were pricey (IMO).

I bought a bunch of velour sweatsuits in larger sizes (non-maternity) in Old Navy. I wore them for the 1st 3 weeks home basically. Then I wore a mix of maternity and non-maternity clothes.

Finally broke down and bought a few pairs of work pants and jeans in a bigger size. 8 months PP and still working on getting back into my size 6's!!!!!!

I wore anything with an elastic waist post baby (DS is 9 months and I still do b/c it's easier moving around with him and getting on the floor to play with him). I did not wear a/t maternity post baby (but I also wore alot of clothes in a larger size while PG-I think I owned maybe 4 pairs of maternity pants).

I wore nursing tanks from Walmart under shirts. I did not own any real nursing bras other than the tanks.

Re: Clothes post baby

I have a bunch of velour sweatsuits from the Gap, NY and Co and Juicy... or whatever. I was able to wear them after a few days of being home. After the C-section I wore PJ's or drawstring bottoms. By two weeks I was able to fit back into my pre-pregancy clothes, but b/c the incision was still a little tender I stuck to sweats and tanks or boxer type shorts and tanks (since it was the summer).

I remember when I was ready to go out and put on nice clothes I hate all my pre-pregnancy clothes anyway b/c it was a year since I shopped for regular clothes. LOL

Re: Clothes post baby

Maternity pants were too big (although I wore them a few times when I went out in the beginning) and pre-preg jeans/pants with buttons at the top were also too snug. I lived in my pre-preg sweats that tied at the top and some yoga pants.

The two nursing bras I had were underwire and uncomfy to sleep in so I had my mom go out and get me some nursing bras with no underwire from Target. I was pretty engorged when my milk came in so I usually wore a bra, even at night.

Re: Clothes post baby

You really kind of have to wait because you never know how your body will react. I lost a TON of weight the first week and had to go out and buy stuff that fit.

my maternity clothes were literally hanging off...no way I could have worn them.

I found the Target nursing tanks in the store but I hated them (I'm always uncomfortable in tanks with the elastic band under the boobs). I got a few nursing bras in store and online.

I wore nothing but fold over waisted jersey "gauchos" (as best I can describe them!) for most of my time home - I bought them in a large and I'd say I had been buying most of my maternity pants in XL. On top I wore some nursing tees I got at oldnavy.com and some maternity tops I had from there as well.

I wore maternity pants for two weeks. After that I fit into my regular clothes. I did go out to Old Navy recently and buy some sweats and lounge pants.

I bought a nursing tank that was $$ and I hate it. It has these slits to nurse thru and I find that impossible. I actually found my regular tanks with the shelf bra comfy and easy to nurse out of.

If you plan on breastfeeding, definately have on hand that lansinoh lanolin cream for your nipples. It was a lifesaver, thank god my sister came to the hospital with it! It helped with the pain. I still use it everyday!

I used to manage a yoga boutique so I have been living in yoga pants throughout the pregnancy and PP. It's the easiest thing to wear since they stretch with you. You can order my favorite ones online from Beyond Yoga (They last for soooo long). As for the nursing bras, I wear them all the time. I bought the tanks but they are not as comfortable to me. This is the nursing bra that I bought 6 of because I love it so much:

Re: Clothes post baby

my maternity pants were all too big, but I wore some of the shirts for the 1st week pp.

before I had the baby I went to NY&Co and bought yoga pants on clearance in my pre-baby size. They fit no problem. I probably would've been uncomfortable in them had I had a c-sec though.

I didn't nurse, so I'm sorry, no help there.

Chat Icon Sooo close! Almost there.

Re: Clothes post baby

I did not wear any maternity clothes once i gave birth. I did live in pjs and sweats for the most part. I love the target brand nursing tanks. They are hard to find in the store and they only have black and white, online you have more color options and they are usually in stock.

Re: Clothes post baby

i bought 2 nursing bras and 2 nursing tanks but they didnt do me any good since i couldnt BF. but they are good to have.

I was still wearing my regular yoga and lounge pants though..not maternity size.

those kind of pants are usually stretcy and give a lot so if you bought your regular size it would probably be fine.

Re: Clothes post baby

I found it helpful to shower and put on real clothes. I wore my maternity jeans/cords with zip up sweatshirts, with a sports type nursing bra or a nursing tank.

I was still comfy, looked presentable and was not sitting around in PJs.

Re: Clothes post baby

I pretty much wore my maternity clothes in reverse - stuff that I wore in the middle of my pregnancy, but was too tight at the end fit pretty well for a few weeks afterward. I actually wore a lot of my pre-pg lounge pants and stuff throughout my pregnancy, so I wore them a lot in the first weeks.

As for bras - it really depends. I was leaking a lot so I needed to wear something just to keep my breast pads in place! I usually wore nursing tank tops or a bra around the house and even to bed. Couldn't go without one.

I lived in Target nursing tanks and sweats/yoga pants for a while. I love the nursing tanks. I still wear them a lot b/c it's easy to nurse in public with the tanks. I bought some online and some in the store.

Re: Clothes post baby

I wore my maternity for about a month after but my weight was SLOW to come off. After that, I bought a few new pairs of regular jeans in a larger size than normal. Mostly though, I wore regular sweats, yoga pants in my normal size (medium). Lots of things with draw strings so they were adjustable. I also went to old navy and picked up some size LG tees to where since they were fairly inexpensive.

Re: Clothes post baby

I agree - I ordered my lounge type stuff from Old Navy last week (rec'd yesterday). I just got a size medium - it's a little unattractive Chat Icon but they fit and are comfortable - motive to get the weight off.

I live in Target nursing tanks - did with Ryan for the first year. I have like 12 of them and wear them under everything.

Anyday now!! Chat Icon

Don't do what I did....at about 3 months pp I bought 3 new Juicy suits b/c I had lost all the weight. Well, my body continued to change (for the better thankfully) and now my Juicy suits hang off of me! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Clothes post baby

My regular sweats fit fine after i delivered. I also found that my maternity pants (secret fit belly) were super comfy as any dress up clothes i needed for awhile. They got baggier as time went on, but they did the trick. I didnt fit into my pre-pregnancy jeans until about 3 months later. I refused to by any clothes until I was back to my pre preg size.

My boobs were/are huge, so going braless is not an option for me. I used nursing bras and nursing shirts for about a week, but my boobs are so big that they were not comfortable and I used underwire bras and regular shirts that I could pull down after the first week. (I was a 36F when my milk came in. pre-preg, i was 34DDD)
