UPDATE at the bottom....Anyone start on Cows milk earlier than a year? Your experience please??

My dd's 10 month visit was yesterday..shes only gained alil less than a lb in 2 months..she eats A TON of food, but barely drinks her bottles now..(maybe 15-17oz a day IF THAT) I asked her ped if i could try and give her alil organic whole milk figuring at least if she loves it, we'll be getting somewhere here..
He said i could try replacing 1 bottle a day (giving her milk in a sippy instead) see how she responds, and if she likes it, do 2 feedings, then the 3rd..he said ill notice right away whether or not shes ok with it..

Anyone have experience with this? How did your dc adjust??

yes, we started just after he turned 11 months. it was a very easy transition for us - we replaced one ounce of formula with one ounce of milk per bottle (he was on 3 bottles at the time) every day. so day one was a 1/7 ratio, day two was 2/6, day 3 was 3/5, and so on...

as long as you have your ped's okay, and she eats well otherwise, i don't see it as a problem

I did. Cold turkey at 11 months. He hated formula and was thrilled to never have it again

i switched DD at 10.5 months...she was refusing her formula so it was either that or she didnt drink anything more than water!

she did great

i was hoping youd reply because if i remember correctly your ds was on Gnetleease like my dd? Correct?
So he did that well on it?

Did you just switch a bottle out per day, or just one day gave milk and that was that?

We started introducing whole milk little by little at about 10 months. She'll be 11 months next week, and she is getting her last bottle of formula tomorrow. After tomorrow, straight milk!

So far, so good...although the ped. recommended that when she's on milk f/t that we get rid of the bottles, too. I don't see that happening, unfortunately

I started Rylan the day he turned 10 months. I didn't replace bottles though. I started adding 1oz of milk to 7oz a formula and upped it an oz every week. I went up to about 6oz milk to 2 oz of formula and then just did all milk. My only reason for doing it this way was my fear of him not liking the milk.

I did! little over 9 months old , cold turkey and she was fine.

I just stopped giving bottles. My DS never held them on his own, and since milk is just a drink, not the main course like formula is, I let him just take his time with the cup.

I didn't (and still done) use straw cups for milk b/c it skeeves me, I use regular sippies. I'd suggest for the highchair getting hte take and toss cups. They are nice and light and good practice

we started at 10 months, though we could have started at 9 months per ped... ds did fine with it.. only issue we had was that he gave up his bottles... but it is a good issue

ok, SO ...operation Cows Milk did NOT work out well this morning..or, as well as i thought it would go..
my usually VERY easily adjusted baby wanted NOTHING to do with the milk i put in a sippy for her this morning (i think at first she was like where the h e l l is my bottle?) THEN, we warmed it..figuring maybe she just didnt like it cold..NOPE one sip, done.
THEN...i put it in her bottle..8oz of regular milk..alone..no formula..
she pretty much laughed at us..like.."whatdya think im dumb?"

She did NOT cooperate even halfway, until i replaced the bottle with 3 oz milk, 5 oz formula..
so far shes drank 4 oz..which never happens, this is the ONLY bottle she sucks down the whole thing..
so,..we'll see how it goes..

Kate, in the beginning, how many oz of milk would you say your ds was drinking per day? Not in addition to any cheese or yogurt or anything...just from the sippys. tia
