How do you know if your baby has a milk allergy?

A lot of babies seem to have this but my doctor doesn't seem to think this could be the cause of the gas. I asked him if he could test his diaper, but he said the gas is just a normal part of the digestive system developing. What are the signs, symptoms?
I'm breastfeeding, would that make a difference???

My DS had mucus and a tinge of blood in his stool. BFing can make a difference if you consume dairy....I had to go dairy free in order to continue BFing.

I don't think DS had a complete allergy, just a sensitivity, because now I only have to stay away from whole milk products.

Many babies are gassy, that is not necessarily a sign of an allergy...it could be something you ate, i.e. broccoli, cauliflower, or even caffeine. Try Mylicon drops. HTH

For us, it had nothing to do with gas. DS got severe exzcema to the point his eyes were almost swollen shut. They put him on Alimentum for awhile, but now he is able to have soy. I never BF though.

Signs of Milk Pro Allergy:

excessive crying, wheezing, runny nose, pulling knees into chest, blood/mucous in stool and eczema.

If you are BF, you will have to do an elimination diet to check. Stop dairy, if it continues, soy, etc.

If you are supplementing, you would have to supplement with either gentlease (if it is not a true allergy) or for true allergy, nutramigen

I have a lot of patients with this situation, and they eliminate the offending foods from diet and supplement with nutramigen.
