Stolen decorations

Someone's been stealing our outdoor halloween decorations this week. Chat Icon It's making me despise the holiday. (It was bad enough last year when I left out a bowl of lollipops while we were at work and came home to every single lollipop stick cut in half and the half without the candy thrown all over our stoop.)

I don't even feel like handing out the candy we bought for this year because I can just bet the little 'angel' stealing all of our stuff will come to our door for candy. DH thinks its an adult since a pumpkin and outdoor decoration was stolen. He thinks if it was a kid they would have squooshed or threw the pumpkin in the street but it's nowhere to be found.

Then DH needs to bring up Xmas - we usually make a winter scene in the front yard with polar bears, pengins, igloo, seal, etc - if someone takes ANY of that I'm going to be so upset I'll cry. I'm thinking of just setting it up in the backyard so at least I know there is less of a chance of it being stolen.

Re: Stolen decorations

I sympathize. I am definitely no longer a fan of Halloween after experiences these past few years. We've had our house egged, punks have stolen and smashed our pumpkins, and when I left a bowl of candy out two years ago TO BE NICE they not only took the candy but the bowl too! Today we got back from pumpkin picking to find the two small pumpkins I put out on the stoop for decorations stolen. Chat Icon

I live in a nice neighborhood that is very safe all year long but the kids seem to lose all sense of decency this time each year.

DH and I are going to sit up all night on Halloween and stare out our windows waiting for the punks to try something again this year!

Re: Stolen decorations

See, over the summer we had the opposite problem! DH and I woke up to our lawn covered with random lawn ornaments from all over! Our walkway was lined with solar lights, broken kids bikes, a welcome flag, political signs, etc.

We just moved into the neighborhood and was so embarrassed thinking one of our neighbors would have thought we stole their stuff, so I knocked on a few doors but no one knew where the stuff came from. We thought it was a friend playing a joke but no one owned up to it, and knowing our friends, they would have right away.

So if anyone out there is missing a broken buddah or welcome flag, I probably have them!

Yeah, I was thinking of going the fake camera route, but DH has this thing about not drilling thru the siding Chat Icon so I have no idea how we would mount them.

my dad was big on the halloween decorations (all homemade). some things were taken, so he started chaining things to trees and staking into the ground.

after he did that - his tire was slashed...real nice! He stopped doing much.

i love the camera idea - a sign might be enough for kids to stop.

OMG, this is terrible. How horrible.

We have vandalisim by where we live too, mostly punky kids and it does deter us lately from doing certain things to our home.Chat Icon

Re: Stolen decorations

How about a motion activated sprinkler?

That really does suck. We had that happen to our Christmas decorations in the neighborhood I grew up in. They actually unplugged our lights on our shrubs and removed them. Chat Icon

I'm sorry!

Bored snotty kids who have nothing better to do, and don't know the value/responsibility of owning something and taking pride in it.

it's a shame!

I would put up the sign - smile, you're on camera!. You don't need to mount fake cameras. Cameras are so small nowadays anyway. With the fake ones, they probably would just smash it.

My DH would probably hide a real button-size camera somewhere if that were happening to us. It would be fun to go show the footage to their parents.
