Re: Is it odd for a home to get RATS, esp for a wooded area?
My parents live in an incorp. village on the NS of LI/Suffolk Cty. It is considered a very nice place to live and there are rats in the village. It is heavily wooded. The houses sit on 1 plus acres. [There are also deer, raccoons and other wild animals.]
My parents have lived there for over 30 yrs. They have never had any rats in the house. However, when a new water line was put in btwn their house and the neighbor's, rats were seen around because they were uprooted. They've used an extermination service ever since. There are traps in the basement and around the property. They continue to have it regularly maintained just in case.

But they never had one? They put traps inside even though they never had one? This house had one inside and a bait station outside, so I have to ASSUME they have had one or more inside...and find it hard to believe otherwise if the seller said other...

Posted by cjik ut if you love the house, I would get an exterminator to take a look at the house and property before you make an offer.
I was going to do this but I feel I will never be able to be sure, other than living there , what the deal is and if we get t hem/can find where they are getting in.
So we aren't placing a bid. This isn't the only reason, but it is a big one.
