If you are miserable where you live......
How are you dealing at this present time? Selling is next to impossible. We haven't
put our home on the market b/c I think its pointless. We bought new construction
in Orange County. There are 8 zillion homes exactly like ours on the market never lived in. We are doing fine financially I
am just STILL not adapting. Its been a year and I am still missing the
city and regretting this move. WWYD?
ETA: I attributed my feeling this way to my commute that I had last year. I am no
longer commuting and still miserable. I also took a pretty big pay cut which I resent b/c now I have to work twice as hard.

Do you try to do stuff up here on weekends? How often do you go to the city when not working?

Re: If you are miserable where you live......
Unfortunately, I have very little advice. I am not miserable most of the time, but I definitely have days where I am frustrated. (Less now then in the beginning)
I moved to the Albany area over two years ago. I was a teacher on LI and took a HUGE paycut when I moved up here (at least 20k). This was very frustrating.
I still have a hard time making friends. I go to meetup.com activities, but have not really clicked with any of the women I have met. I still keep going though. I think it is good to get out of the house.
Luckily, my co-workers are the best and we probably have a big get together once a month. Most weekends, however, are spent hanging out with my DH or his friends. He lucked out. He works in a program geared towards people his age and we hang out with all the time. Unfortunately, there are very few girls or girlfriends in the group.
As for traveling back to LI, I go "home" at least once a month and meet up with my friends and family.
Right now, we are in the process of buying a house. The neighborhood we are moving to seems to be very family friendly so I am hoping to meet some nice new neighbors.
I try to remain optimistic. There are many things I like about living here. One thing which is good is that it has definitely brought DH and I closer together.

Re: If you are miserable where you live......
I have friends and family here! I also joined a workout group a few nights a week. So I am definitely busy.
I just really MISS my old place, neighborhood and "life". I just feel like
why not try and get it back?
We visit the city a lot and honestly this is when it hurts the most!

Re: If you are miserable where you live......
Is it possible to maybe keep your home as a weekend home and maybe get a little apartment in the city? If thats possible...
I love where you live and your home is beautiful, but I'm also a city girl and can't see myself moving up there for good...but I love upstate as well...thats we're toying around with getting a weekend home upstate and keeping our rental in Queens as opposed to buying in the city...we want the best of both worlds

Re: If you are miserable where you live......
i'm lonely out here in NJ away from all our family and friends on LI.
everyone keeps telling me when we have children we'll make friends, but i'm lonely now! who knows when we'll have kids...
everyone that both DH and i work with are much older than us and have kids. and b/c of my job in the community, i can never really relax and be 100% myself, i'm always "on." so it's hard...

I would LOVE to do that! We should've bought a smaller house!!!!!!!
Marnie~ I hate when people tell me that i'll like it when I have kids. I want
to like it now. What if I don't have kids
