Can someone help me figure out how I can tell what HS a house is zoned for? We would only want Calhoun (just our preference - not looking to debate the merits of Kennedy v. Calhoun v. Mepham) but I cannot for the life of me figure out how I can tell what HS a house is zoned for.

All of South Bellmore is zoned for Kennedy!

I am in North Bellmore and a friend of mine is in Merrick and we are both zoned for Mepham. So I am not helpful in regards to those two but all of South Bellmore goes to Kennedy!

When house hunting, I knew I did not want Kennedy but keep in mind all of the students go to the SAME middle school for 3 years. Then they split into those 3 HS.

Good luck!

Actually, there are two middle schools and they are only 7th and 8th grade. Bellmore kids go to Grand Ave MS and and Merrick to Merrick Ave MS. The Grand Ave kids generally go to Mepham while the Merrick Ave kids generally go to Kennedy or Calhoun with a few going to Mepham. For the most part, South Merrick will go to Kennedy and N. Merrick kids to Calhoun...so if you are looking for Calhoun placement, I would house hunt in Merrick, north of Sunrise HWY.

That was pretty much what I was going to say. All of South Bellmore and Merrick (S. of Merrick Rd or Sunrise Hwy...I'm not 100% sure which) is Kennedy. North of Sunrise (or Merrick Rd) is Mepham for Bellmore residents, and Calhoun for Merrick residents, I believe. I am in Bellmore, about a mile south of Sunrise, and I am zoned for Mepham.

Oh then I stand corrected - Oops!! But am I correct in the sense that South Bellmore kids who go to Kennedy go to Grand Avenue correct?

I guess the original poster would prefer Merrick Avenue Middle School and Calhoun HS.

Also, since I just moved to the neighborhood can anyone share some pros/cons to Mepham? You can as candid as you want. Thank you! *In an effort to not hijack the post ... I will repost this question.

i just got a house in north merrick, and the border of the school zones (calhoun vs. mepham) goes through the property. i had to call the school district and give them my address to find out which school district my future kids would go to (and unfortunately we aren't allowed to choose even though our property is split). i then verified the info by doing the "property search" on http://www.nassaucountyny.gov/mynassauproperty/main.jspand seeing to which district the school taxes were being paid.

Nothing I see on my nassau property indicates which high school - can you tell me what you looked at? They're all in teh same district, that's why I find this so confusing.

i went to the "general and school taxes" tab and clicked on "view school tax bill details." that's where i saw the taxes were being paid to the north bellmore school district. i was told that if i pay school taxes to north bellmore, that means grand ave middle school and mepham high school. if taxes are paid to north merrick, that means merrick ave middle school and calhoun high school. if taxes are paid to merrick or bellmore, that means merrick ave middle school and kennedy high school. hope that helps! (and hope i was informed correctly!).

oh, i should add, assuming you cross-check the tax bill info by calling the school district, try calling the transportation department http://www.bmchsd.k12.ny.us/transportation.htm

if i recall correctly, i think what i did was call the general school district number and eventually was routed to transportation. i guess it makes sense that the ppl in charge of buses know the zoning.

If I'm not mistaken, type in the address to a house on zillow and/or google maps and you'll get that info.
