Re: Moms who plan to BF

I bought the pump already (I got it off of craigslist..its just the machine and I will buy all of the assessories/attachments brand new) I plan on (if I can)exclusively breast feeding until prob like 8weeks then introduce the bottle bc I will be going back to work at about 12 weeks..but in between feedings (even when I'm exclusively bf) I will pump to try to get a freezer stash

That's my plan so I hope it all works out haha

Re: Moms who plan to BF

Mich-my plan is to wait and see. I don't want to waste money on a pump if I can't BF for some reason. I am going to rent the pump and if all goes well after about a week and a half, buy the pump. I am going to BF and bottle feed her breast milk because I am going to have to go back to work after 3 months or so. I will probably give that two weeks or so, depending on what happens

I'm going back to work after 6 weeks so I definitely do plan on pumping!

Not sure how soon I will start - have to see how it goes.

Re: Moms who plan to BF

I BF DS; EBF for 5 1/2 months. Introduced cereal at 5 1/2 months. Weened at 1 year.

While there are no guarantees, I will try to BF DD too.

1. do you plan to pump? When necessary, yes.

2. did you get a pump yet or are you waiting til after DC comes? I already have a pump from DS, but I am waiting until DD is born to order the tubing. I got the pump about a week after DS was born to make sure my milk actually came in and I could see myself BFing him.

3. will you pump right away and feed baby from breast and bottle? If yes, when?
I made this mistake with DS by listening to the LC and EBF with no bottles after the one in the hospital for 9 weeks. When I needed to give him a bottle he would not take it. I plan on EBF for and giving bottles from the get go.

1) If DS takes to the breast and I produce enough milk, then I will need to pump, at the very least when I go back to work. I may want to pump before then so mommy could have a break and daddy can feed him.

2) waiting until DS arrives to make sure that everything works out with BF.

3) See #2. Also I may supplement with formula at times if need be.

Re: Moms who plan to BF

Prob going to give BF a try - still debating

getting pump from my friend - will buy attachments - would not have spent the money on a pump since I'm not sure I'll like it,etc - would have rented

plan is to pump from the get go and do breast milk bottles besides breast feeding and supp.w formula if necessary

I am planning to rent a pump from the hospital, and see how it goes. You can do it on a monthly basis.

I plan to BF but as it didn't work with my first one, I am going to have a contingency that I am not going to pump, I am going straight to formula. I pumped for 8 months with my son, and I was a slave to that thing. My advice would be wait and see, but lots of people get them early.

eta with my son I rented a hospital grade pump from Medela and that kept my supply up for a long time. I loved it.

1. Yes
2. my friend is giving me her Medala pump in style set and im buying the new attachments for it. Im not sure how BF will work so i figured this is probably the most economical way to start.
3. I figured since im home for 3 months i'll be feeding from my boobs most of the time..but im not sure. I dont want to pump at work so i will either need to store a lot of milk for a while, or add in formula at some point.

its all very confusing to me.. Chat Icon

Re: Moms who plan to BF

I plan on EBF, and I will need to pump to build a supply for when I return to work. Having said that, I haven't bought a pump yet because they're really expensive, and just in case there are unknown issues that arise, I don't want to get stuck with a pump. The BF class I attended recommended not pumping until about 4 weeks in, and that's when I will buy and start to pump BM.

Re: Moms who plan to BF

1. do you plan to pump? Yes/

2. did you get a pump yet or are you waiting til after DC comes? I registered for one. If I don't get it, I will buy it. If I can't use it for this pregnancy, I will try to use it for future ones.

3. will you pump right away and feed baby from breast and bottle? If yes, when? Yes, as soon as baby latches on. I'm going to try to do both so that DH and family members will be able to feed the baby too.

1. Yes, most likely - I hear most women need to. However I hope to EBF at the beginning.
2. No I am going to wait until after. I'd prefer to bhave the midwife recommend one or try the one in the hospital first because I am so confused when it comes to breast pumps. Also if my milk doesn't come in or something then there's no point in me having one.
3. I'm going to wait and see. If I make too much milk (like some of my girlfriends have) then I'll pump. If not, then I'll EBF until such a time as when I need to bottle feed - hopefully not for the first couple of months.

1. Yes I plan to pump
2. I'm using my sisters and got new parts. It's the yellow medala one.
3. I will be doing both but mostly BF. I would like DC being OK with a bottle as I'm in my best friends wedding 3 weeks after DC should be here. It's not very ideal but I'd also like DH to have a little bonding time, so it works for us. I don't know when I'll start, I still have to read more and take my class....

Re: Moms who plan to BF

I am going back to work after 12 weeks so I plan to pump at work. I would prefer for my baby to drink BM exclusively and not formula.

So I am going to use my 20% off BBB coupon and buy the pump soon (before my due date).

I am not going to open it though and use the hopsital pump if necessary to see if I have adequate supply so that if BF does not work, I can return the pump.

If BF does work, then I will start introducing a bottle after 8 weeks.

Re: Moms who plan to BF

My son is 5 1/2 weeks old and I EBF.

My Ped and the nurses at the hospital suggested I wait 2 weeks before pumping to make sure my milk supply was good before pumping. I waited the two weeks, even though my milk came in the 4th day after my c-section.

I EBF, but started pumping once a day after the 2-week wait period.

My son had no problems latching or taking the bottle.

Now I'm pumping all the time. I have the Medela pump (borrowed from my sister). But if it didn't have hers to use, I would have waited until after he was born to see if I was going to need it.

Re: Moms who plan to BF

1. yes I will be pumping when I go back to work. (a little before that to get a nice supply going)
2. I'm probably going to wait until after DD is born to get one unless I can find a great deal on one beforehand. I will probably get a cheap manual one for now.
3. Unless I have engorgmenent issues like I had with my first DD I don't plan on pumping right away. I had borrowed an electric pump with my first but had a manual one (i'm kicking myself for throwing it out now) to relieve my engorgement. It also worked well to pump just a quick few ounces so DH could feed her every now and then which we started at 3 or 4 wks.

1. Yes but after I make sure BF works for me.
2. Waiting til after I make sure BF works for me .
3. No I have heard that pump does not stimulate milk production as good as baby and also b/c I don't want baby to get nipple confusion. I will EBF for first 4 months

Re: Moms who plan to BF

1. Yes I plan to pump
2. I nursed with my son so I already have a pump, but when I had him I waited to see if I would stick to BFing before purchasing a pump. I was afraid I would quit and then would have bought the pump for no reason.
3. I plan to wait to pump until about 4 weeks post partum but I might pump before that, depending on how it goes with having a newborn and a toddler. Also I waited too long to get my son used to a bottle and I don't want to have those problems again.

1. do you plan to pump?
Yes. I BF and pumped with DS and plan to do the same this time, but due to less free time then the first time around, I may have to supplement with formula too.
2. did you get a pump yet or are you waiting til after DC comes?
I got the pump after DS was born and he took to BFing.
3. will you pump right away and feed baby from breast and bottle? If yes, when?
I started pumping after feedings after about a week. I would get just a few ounces, but it was enough for DH to give DS a bottle every day or so. I also went back to work a few hours a day at 3 weeks, so I needed enough for DS while I was gone. He never had any issues going between breast and bottle.

Re: Moms who plan to BF

I plan to BF as long as Im able to. I will register for the Medela Pump, I have read alot of reviews and feel that will work best. I plan on alternating breast and bottle, so that the baby gets used to both.
The idea of renting a machine kinda freaks me out though.
Where do you rent it from and how do you know if it is clean and sanitary? things like that freak me out. Any ideas.information would be greatly appreciated.
Im new to this site, due on March 6, 2010. Can't wait Chat Icon
