OK 3rd tri moms (esp those who are on #1)...who is w. me?
I am starting to FREAK out. I am now 31wks and the realization is setting in.
Sure all the "fun stuff" is just that- fun. The nursery, interviewing peds, shower, setting things up, furniture delivered, etc etc etc.
But what im freaked about now is.... WHAT THE HECK DO I DO W/ AN INFANT????????
I guess it doesnt help that i go on parenting board from time to time and i read stories of girls who were just here on PG board only weeks ago and they are confused, worried, scared, frustrated, etc. OMG will that be me in a few wks??
You can read all the bks in the world but until your little one gets here, you have no idea what kind of kid it will be, sleep it will be, if it'll be colicky etc,
Ok...just need to know if im alone in this crazy 3rd trimester world

Oh yes, being that I'm about 3.5 weeks from my due date, I'm a nervous wreck. This is baby number one and I feel completely unprepared. I've done everything I'm supposed to do to get ready, but the realization that I'll be caring for an infant soon is REALLY SCARY!
I feel your pain!

Hi, I'm not quite in the third trimester - two more weeks to go but I did get pretty nervous yesterday. I've been a bad registry stalker and I was really excited to see things coming off the registry. And then yesterday, I realized that all that stuff is coming to my house and life is seriously about to change!!!! It all became very real.

Re: OK 3rd tri moms (esp those who are on #1)...who is w. me?
I'm 34 weeks now, and definitely starting to feel the nervousness setting in.
I'm anxious about the delivery, and a little scared of how that is going to go and how it will feel. I mean there is a baby in me, and he needs to come out nice and healthy with both of us being ok. Just seems like quite a bit of pressure.
Then there's the whole infant thing. I'm not nervous about being a mom persay. I think I'm going to be a great Mom.
However, I am nervous about many of the things you said. How will breastfeeding go? Will I make it through those first couple of weeks without much sleep? Will my child be colicky? Will we have reflux? Will he be easy going?
I have so many questions, but I really try not to think about them, and when I do I start thinking about the FUN stuff. Who will he look like? What kind of personality is he going to have? I think about how much I can't wait to meet this little guy who is just kicking up and rolling around all the time in my belly!!!!

I am 37 wks w/ #1. Being induced on 9/29. I am not really nervous but I do wonder some stupid questions like how do you know if you are feeding the baby enough formula...will I hear the baby cry @ night, ...

Re: OK 3rd tri moms (esp those who are on #1)...who is w. me?
all i can give is advice related to my own experience - try not to freak out! taking care of a newborn is not at all difficult, it's just time consuming if you prepare yourself for very little sleep, you'll be fine. and even that should go away within a few weeks as baby gets used to sleeping at night, and sleeps for longer stretches at a time.
there are tons of helpful mommies on the parenting board who will be happy to help when you make the transition
the most helpful tips i got as a new mommy were:
- swaddle! and use a swaddle me or the miracle blanket, regular blankets don't work as well.
- don't hesitate to use a pacifier. it won't cause nipple confusion if you are nursing regularly (and if you're not BFing, nothing to worry about). the best ones IMO are the soothies but buy a bunch and see what your baby likes best. it can be a lifesaver!!
- keep things bright and loud during the day, and dark and quiet at night. most newborns can nap through absolutely anything, don't worry that they won't get enough sleep during the day.
- don't stress about BFing! if it works, great, if not, that's okay too. i think the majority of my mommy friends did not BF (for one reason or another) and their babies are all big, healthy, and have rarely been sick!
good luck to all you new mommies nearing the end... it's not nearly as scary when you have your new baby in your arms

First of all, Headoverheels - Thanks for your post. Makes me feel so much better!
I'm 33 weeks and alternating between elation and total insecurity. I am getting pretty sick of this enormous belly and anxious to get the baby out. I know it has yet to really hit me though. My baby shower is going to be on 10/4. Once I have all the stuff, It's all gonna be real. YIKES!
