Glen Cove........
Is it commutable to the city? How long does it take? Anyone do this on a daily basis?
If you don't have experience commuting to the city from Glen Cove in particular, how about commuting from some of the surrounding towns into the city? TIA!!

Re: Glen Cove........
I grew up one town over. On the LIRR to NYC it is 2 HOURS. B/c you need to switch at Jamaica to the Oyster Bay branch line. By car to the city it is about an hour. In rush hour it can be an hour and a half depending upon where in Glen Cove you are living. Also, please be aware that there are some not so nice areas to GC.

Re: Glen Cove........
My parents live in Sea Cliff- one town over from Glen Cove. On the LIRR you do have to switch trains, but is not 2 hours, I think about 1 hour or a little more. The trains are the double decker kind!
I just checked the LIRR website it is about an hour commute-- for example during the week the 7:27 train gets to Penn Station at 8:32. HTH!

Re: Glen Cove........
I lived in Glen Cove by the Sea Cliff border.
The train is kind of PITA. you have to transfer.
By car, in and out of Glen Cove takes forever.
Small roads within the town.
Out of Glen Cove is either 107 or Glen Cove rd.
Glen Cove Rd is PACKED when you go towards Rosevelt Field Malll. PACKED!n Especially around the Holidays or Summer.
107 is a 2 lane rd until you arrive around Jericho then it connect with 106 (right at Jericho Turnpike). PITA in the morning.

It's not bad about 1 hr 20 minutes.. and not ALL trains switch at jamaica, so me are direct look at schedule. i did it for a while, it was tiring after a while. sometimes i would park at manhasset since it such a quick train ride, best bet find a parking spot in manhasset... Glen Cove is a beautiful city and btw, there are no so nice parts of EVERY town.....

Re: Glen Cove........
No, it is not good for commuting. Glen Cove schools are also not great. The town is really dead.

ITA with all of the above. I grew up in a neighboring town and I now have close family that live in Locust Valley. They are actually looking to relocate to Manhasset because of the commuting times and what a pain it is to get to their home because of the lack of main roads and traffic. HTH!
