Nik211 - Just wondering, how is the PMI so low? the reason we are doing 20% is that the PMI would be $142 per month
JML83 - How do you not pay PMI if you put less than 20%
just wondering and hoping we did the right thing!!
if you have access to one, check out a credit union for mortgages. we're going through mine and we aren't paying PMI and are only putting down 5%...

We did an FHA so only put 3.5% down. We could have put down a bit more but wanted some $ for repairs, furniture, etc....
this is exactly what we are going to do

Re: downpayment....
we are 20% people (first 2 places), but we are buying up now and we're not going to make it (since this market is down)
I'm not really worried about it.

Re: downpayment....
5%, no PMI, lots of $ left in the bank after closing for repairs and furniture purchases.

Re: downpayment....
Our first house, 20% down. Now we're looking to put 40-50% down on our next house.

Re: downpayment....
We put down 3.5% on a conventional mortgage. We are paying PMI but we hope to eradicate it in the next year or so (with FHA we couldn't do that). The house appraised for more than we paid plus we did a lot of renovating.
