? for those well acquainted with Sayville
DH and I are considering Sayville to move to but we haven't really familiarized ourselves with the town yet. From what we can tell, there are very few homes for sale that are waterfront. My question is are there areas where there are canals that come up behind homes? If so, which blocks are they? We went down Candee, Gillette and Collins and some other streets in that area but didn't see any canals.
Also, where do people dock their boats? Are there yacht clubs, private marinas or town marinas?

you can dock you boat at Browns River in Bayport/Sayville. Also at Bayport beach. There is a Street Im pretty sure its Sunset that has a canal by it, Also Benson (Bucko Bucks) and all streets off the two (which are a block apart). I want to say the street is Astor off Montauk hwy, there is a canal/lake there. Anything south of Montauk, you are going to be paying $$$$$$$ for. The taxes are nuts. I have a friend who live north of Montauk near the train, and her taxed were $14,000 three yrs ago. GL.

Thanks for the info. Actually, we love the Mill Pond area (where Astor is) but that water is a pond, which I don't believe leads out to the bay or that we would be able to keep our boat there anyway. The problem with that pond is that it's a mecca for mosquitos. We were looking for canals that lead to the bay. We are heading out that way tonight so we will check out Sunset. Thanks

Did you look at West Sayville? I believe the streets around Atlanice Ave and Sunset Drive are waterfront, on a canal type thing.

We used to dock our boat at Port O'Call, which is at the end of Foster Ave. There is also a marina at Brown's River Road, or you could go into West Sayville at the end of Atlantic Ave.
Sunset Drive does have canals, and the homes are gorgeous, but !
I agree with checking out West Sayville. If you're not doing anything this weekend, you and your DH should take a ride to the Seafood Festival at the Maritime Museum, to get a feel for that area over there.

If you are lucky enough to find a house on West Lane you'll have canals leading to the bay in front of and behind your house.

Sunset Dr is really the only canal in town- there is one on the other side of the 7-11. There are several canals in Blue Point, which is right up the road.
