1 hr glucose test... what should I expect?

I'm going tomorrow morning for my GTT. What should I expect? From what I have found on here they take blood, make you drink a gross liquid, then wait 1hr to test your blood again? Anyone care to share stories?

Is there a time frame during which you must finish the drink? How much is there to drink? People compare it to a really sweet soda- I hope that isn't the case.. I haven't had soda in 7 years.. toooooooo sweet for me. I think I'm dead meat..

I'm going to the outpatient lab at Good Sam. Anyone been there for this test? Do they offer choices of poison liquid?

I didnt think the drink was gross at all. Best bet- go in thirsty so you get it down quicker. I was told i had to drink it all between 5-7 mins. I think it tasted like Orange Fanta soda. I never drink soda-prob havent since HS and i didnt think it was gross

My drink wasn't carbonated. Tasted like really sweet orange drink from McDonalds. The lab I went to didn't take my blood before the test. I had about 10 minutes to drink it. Took me a little longer. Waited an hour and then she drew the blood.

they didnt take my blood BEFORE the test. they give you an orange soda like drink...its 10oz in a little chubby bottle. Its like flat soda thats all..i have trouble drinking stuff and i got it down in the 5-7 minutes.

then you sit an hour and right before the hour is up they draw blood. they drew three vials. I did mine at quest in NYC.

I was never told to fast, but apparently according to quest labs you're supposed to not eat for 12 hours prior. check with your dr or lab if you dont have instructions.
