I know there are a lot of different sections here - can anyone tell me what are the nicer areas of port washington (aside from Sands Point) and which ones to avoid?

ETA: Walking distance to LIRR is a huge plus!

My old boss lives in Beacon Hill, I think. It is beautiful there and I think walkable to the LIRR. She is on Beacon Hill Road.

We have been looking for a little while in Port Washington to buy a house too.

The nicest areas which are more $$$ are Port Washington Estates, Manhasset Bay Estates, Beacon Hill, Baxter Estates & Monfor Hills.

Then you have New Salem, Old Salem which are very nice too, just a little less money ( but still pricey) and this seems to be more younger families.

Those areas I would recommend.

Re: Port Washington

Beacon Hill is a beautiful area, very pricey though. Anything too close to the LIRR and the houses are older, smaller, etc.

Baxter Estates is also beautiful - walkable to the train as well.

Sands Point, as well as Manorhaven and Manhasset Isle & Soundview are the farthest from the train station.

Aside from a few sketchy blocks here and there I don't think you can go wrong with the town - I grew up thereChat Icon
