Forced air ac?
Has anyone added an ac unit to your forced air? If so, any pros cons? Oh and how much would something like that cost? I am dying for central air!!

Re: Forced air ac?
someone told us that to add it to our already existing system that it would be $4000. This is something we will do next year.

Re: Forced air ac?
People keep on telling me different stories on how they do it and way different prices. I guess I should just find a company that can take a look and give me an estimate.
Do you have any recommendations?

Re: Forced air ac?
We had this done a couple of years ago. We used keyspan. we needed an ac condenser and a new furnace (it was really old). if I remember correctly the whole thing was around $5000 and we qualified for a tax rebate b/c we got a high efficiency furnace. National Grid might have some deals on their website.

Re: Forced air ac?
this is what we have in our house and although it works really well on the first floor....our upstairs is really hot unless we put the central ac down in the 60's.

Re: Forced air ac?
We had it done 3 years ago. Best investment ever. We had forced air heat and duct work already in place. However, our furnace was 40+ years old, so we were advised not to put an AC condenser unit on the old furnace. So we upgraded the furnace and had the CAC installed at the same time. We paid just about $6500, and that included the new furnace which was close to $3K.
ETA: We have a dual zone hi-ranch. So the heating and cooling are perfect and we have no issues. We only have an upper and lower level.

Re: Forced air ac?
It was about $4000, we just did it. We had a few ducts added and we needed to add a return and increase our return upstairs.
We got quotes from $4k - $7k. We used Soundview AC in Port Jeff, they were really great.
we also had everyone telling us different things- its very frustrating!

Re: Forced air ac?
We didn't install it, I guess the previous owners did. But my one recommendation like another poster stated already is that if you have bi-level home not including your basement, I would add a zone. In order for my home to comfortable through out the house (and that means upstairs is a little warmer) we have to keep the a/c on at 71. I think we are going to add another zone in next few years.
