Very! I just moved in with my bf- what we didn't have we purchased (or was given to us! Thanks Diana!)

And I will be having a small party when the place is done to show it off and share it with our friends- not for gifts...

But I'm sure you friends will bring you stuff because they want to, not because you told them to and to make sure its from the list at ABC...

Your way is the right way to go about things

Thanks! and I'm sure they will! People keep yelling at me for buying so much stuff b/c they want to get us something...which is very nice and anything given to us will be appericated- but I would never register- honestly wine or beer works just fine!

In this particular case, they are engaged but putting off the actual marriage part until after they buy a house…so when they do get a house I’m guessing there’ll be another house warming…then a bridal shower once they start planning the wedding—so my guess is they’ll own half of Bed Bath and Beyonds inventory.Chat Icon

I'll probably end up getting them a gift off the registry because I'm the one who's going to end up feeling stupid if I'm the only one who doesn't.

Don't buy glasses. I got a TON of glasses when we had our party - wine glasses, beer pints, everyday glasses, outside glasses, etc

And tons of very useful giftcards

I may be in the minority, but I think any type of housewarming gift where you expect people to give you presents is ballsy and tacky. (Yes, I said tacky.)

If you want to have a party to show off your new place, then have a party. Don't register or expect people to bring you gifts, though.

A registry for a housewarming party?! Chat Icon

I'd bring a bottle of champagne and my congratulations, and call it a day!

It's not you. It's ballsy.

You do not register for a housewarming gift. YOU DO NOT REGISTER FOR HOUSEWARMING GIFTS. Have a housewarming party. Invite people. They'll bring food and wine. Some might even bring toasters and towels, etc. But to ask for gifts by REGISTERING? Ballsy. JMO.

Trust me, you won't be the only one who doesn't get something off the registry.
Just because they chose to be tacky and register for a housewarming party, doesn't mean you should fall for it.
If you want to bring a gift, then bring a gift and make sure its not something off the registry, just to make a point!
A plant, some dishtowels, candles, wine, liquor, cute appetizer dishes/trays etc are all appropriate housewarming gifts.
And i bet you anyone else going to that party is wondering the same thing as you.

if it wasn't someone i cared that much about, i'd actually not go to the party - thats how rude i think it is to register. And i'd tell them why!
But if you don't want to make waves, its understandable.

I think registering was totally ballsy. It's right up there with the invitation my mother got recently requesting cash in lieu of gifts. People have not manners anymore

Definately ballsyChat Icon That girl has some nerve. I would not even go to this party and If I did, I would bring a bottle of wine and that's IT!

Re: Is this a little ballsy or is it just me?

Kind of ballsy to ask and register although I would bring a housewarming gift anyway, it is odd to ask and register

Did she have an engagement party?

If not she could have made it more of an engagement/housewarming and then the registry would have made sense IMO
