BTDT Moms - When did you start feeding your DC fish/fish sticks?
Im looking for soft foods with protein for Abby and I think she might like fish sticks. Any thoughts or ideas would be helpful. Thx.

Around a yr old. Sometimes he likes them, sometimes he doesn't. Mostly he enjoys anything breaded!
Also, a good fairly healthy dinner - Chix Nuggets.

What about chickpeas? (SP?) When I was training this was one of the proteins I was supposed to eat.

ooh leslie thanks for asking this! i was actually thinking about this yesterday. going to pick some up for luca today. he's had fish before (salmon) and seemed to like it so we'll see.

Chicken is too hard for her to breakdown in her mouth. She gags on everything so nuggets don't work and I have tried them - then I ended up eating the whole bag myself. Fish would be easier for her. Thanks ladies!

At 10 mos I was eating tuna on triscuits and Anthony was screaming his head off for them, so I gave him tuna on cheerios and it is one of his favorites

Oh, the chix nuggets are those faux chicken soy things - we started with small pieces of those because they are softer (and healthier) than reg nuggets

Not a bad idea considering she is on soy to begin with. I had to search for nuggets without milk in them. Many of them have whey. Thanks!

DD has never had fish sticks, but Heather has given her fish - which she likes. I don't remember when the first time was though. Maybe 3 months ago??

DS loves fish sticks- we started at around 11-12 months. He is not a meat eater.
I like Trader Joe's version. They are healthier than the other kinds, and you can easily peel off the breading if you don't want her to have it.
he also really likes hummus and avocado!

You left out the part where you dont like fish and if it werent for me she still wouldnt have had fish....

I make my own from time to time too...it's very easy as long as you get a firmish fish...Basa (Swai) Filet works very well.

Les doesn't cook fish in her home. I made tacos the other night and my place has smelled like Taco Bell for 2 days.

My ped said he usually recommends 18 months, but I started a bit early. DS is 16 months and he loves them. I buy the Dr. Praegar ones.

Its amazing how so many other cultures wouldn't even think twice about it. Scandanavian and Asian cultures feed their kids fish almost from the womb.

Caden had fish earlier...
I was originally answering regarding FISH STICKS...
It's a perfect food really for young children...
I just made sure I fed him a fish that would be very low in mercury...(NO SHARK..the bigger the fish the more mercury)
