i don't mean to sound ungrateful
but i am SO tired of MIL buying clothes for DS. we don't have the same taste and she just keeps buying and buying. the clothes are not ugly (well most of them) - they're just not what i would choose.
he has so much he probably won't wear half of it.
i guess i can just hope DC#2 is a boy so at least someone can wear it.

Re: i don't mean to sound ungrateful
I feel your pain!!!!!!!!!! My mother in law is NOTORIOUS for coming back from vacations (usually casino related) with the most GOD AWFUL t-shirts...."somebody in Mohegan Sun loves me" and the like.......he even has a visor to match. I have 10 just like it. Or should say had...I just threw them all out last week

Re: i don't mean to sound ungrateful
I feel ya. The little carter's stuff I don't mind, but the Future Drama Queen and Houston, we have a problem, check diaper stations tees are too much.
I have some other onesies in her drawer and she will only wear them if MIL dresses her, which is rare.

I hear ya!! My MIL means well but she is constantly buying ugly clothes and clothes in the wrong size/season. I'd rather her save the money or purcahse him a bond with the money!

Re: i don't mean to sound ungrateful
I totally agree.... same thing here!! here is the worst part....
When my MIL baby sits.. she will go through and put her in what she bought her... not what I left out for her.... hows that for overstepping boundaries!?!?!

Re: i don't mean to sound ungrateful
I hear ya! I think my MIL is catching onto my way of dressing my kids as opposed to her other grandkids. All of my husbands sister's kids look like white trash ragamuffins all the time.....character t-shirts, sweatpants, dirty shoes all the time. I'm prefer to teach my kids to take pride in their appearance and look nice, not dressed up, but clean and nice pants shirts if we go to a restaurant or something. We have often been asked "Why is everyone so dressed up?" Really? A white polo and a pair of khakis at a dinner party is dressed up.
Even worse is that my MIL always cuts all the tags off of things before giving them, so most of it goes right to the Goodwill pile.

Re: i don't mean to sound ungrateful
I feel the same way. My mom always buys stuff for DD. Sometimes I like them, but most times not. Same thing with my Aunt. I save those outfits and put DD in them when we are going to see them. She will wear them once and then they go in the donation pile.

Re: i don't mean to sound ungrateful
I really only like my mom or I buying clothes for the kids.
MIL picks out stuff that just isn't my taste (or it's really tacky) and she only seems to shop at places with bad return policies She has cut back so she noticed I never dressed DS in the stuff.

Re: i don't mean to sound ungrateful
My MIL is notorious for taking the tags off things before giving them to us and has no clue about my kids sizes at all !
Its a shame because so many things have been given away because she removes the tags and the clothes are too small !

No my mom and MIL do it too and I usually don't like them. They don't do it as much anymore because they probably never see them on him

Re: i don't mean to sound ungrateful
my step-MIL is the same way... they live out of state so i try to make DS wear the clothes and send a picture. I've been trying to get her to send the gift receipt so i can atlease exchange it if i need. she also send tons of stuffed animals, which i think i hate even more. she sent DD three or four dressy dress' last christmas, she was only 3 months old. i never put her in any of the dresses

My mom insisted that I liked overalls for DS - they are a pain to snap/unsnap for diaper changes. I bring them to daycare.

That was going to be my suggestions! Play clothes! I should add... great for playdoh/paint, etc...

Re: i don't mean to sound ungrateful
I hate this too. I have a specific style I like my boys to wear and it doesnt always fit with what people buy me.
This is what I do 1. return it if there is a gift receipt 2. politely say I dont like it 3. let it sit in closet until season is over and then donate it to needy children
Now...if only people would buy him GAP, Childrens Place or Old Navy or Polo...we wouldnt have this problem lol (snobby much???o

Re: i don't mean to sound ungrateful
I totally agree. My MIL does that too. Then she asks where they are because she never sees them on her. The worst was when she told me she bought DD her 1st Easter dress. It looked like something from the 50s and I really wanted a cute fluffy dress. I told DH she is not wearing it and she didn't.

Oh i can relate. MIL is SOOOO generous with DS its crazy. That said some of the items she does purchase are SOOOO not anything I would buy. Im not cutesy, I don't care for cutesy clothes for boys, but I just smile and say thanks.

You can't even regift them because you don't want anyone to think you have poor taste in clothing...
