big no-no but...

i really want sushi in the worst way and DH has offered to take me out to dinner tonight restaurant of my choice. Do you think it would be really bad if i just did it once in this nine months? I haven't had any since i gotten PG. Would you chance it once or just stay away completely?

I would stay away from the raw fish. California rolls are fine that I know.

I was told rolls are perfectly OK because they are really cooked. I had 2 California rolls the other night and it was DELISH :)
I think the doctors just mean no raw.
but double check.
my little one LOVES the rolls :)

Re: big no-no but...

JMO, but I would not risk it; unless you only want to eat California rolls at a great sushi restaurant.
Believe me, this is coming from a BIG sushi fan. I would give my left arm for a spicy tuna roll and a glass of pinot grigio right now. I can't do California rolls when everyone around me is eating stuff that I want but can't have.
I have abstained from sushi and all alcohol throughout my pregnancy because a California roll and a sip of wine would not cut it for me.
DH has strict orders to bring me sushi in the hospital along with a bottle of wine. I plan on breastfeeding but I have a good 48 hours before my milk comes in to have wine and sushi, my Dr. said it was ok so I am going to go for it.

Not bad at all for craving the normal things you used to eatChat Icon These are the sacrifices we make for our kidsChat Icon

I really really really want a glass/bottle of red wine so badly, I was a decent wine drinker pre pg, can't wait to sip my merlot!

Go for the cooked sushi's and save the raw stuff for later.

I wouldn't take the chance with eating raw food. It just isn't worth it and, gf, something happened, you would NEVER forgive yourself.

Not at all. I considered it tons of times, but i did not follow through. Some people have told me that for me to have it in the hospital is risky, but you know what I say to them... I have waited 9 plus months, and will have just went through birth and damn it, I am having a tuna roll and a glass of wine. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Don't do it, stay away from the raw stuff!

While the chances of you hurting the baby isn't too likely (if you eat at a clean restaurant), the guilt will kill you!

I had a terrible craving for sushi and just went for it a couple of months ago. It felt so good indulging at the moment, but immedaitely after I was done, I felt reallyyyyy bad, so bad that I cried for being so selfish.

The guilt isn't worth it!

Quite honestly, I would stay away from the raw stuff. I would only eat the cooked stuff and I would also let them know that you are pregnant to make sure that you do get anything that touched the raw stuff.

I am in the same boat as you - I am dying for it. My DH told me he thinks it is too tempting for me to eat at these types of restaurants (I go to Tai Show in Oakdale). So he promised that the day I give birth, he will go out and get me my Spicy Tuna rolls.

I agree 100%. I told my DH that I want some wine waiting for me after delivery. Chat Icon

Its such a shame because sushi is so yummy, but out of bounds! It makes me wonder, what do pregnant ladies in Japan eat?

I'm sure they eat it in Japan.
I was told if its from a reputable place then it's fine. I had it a couple of time while I was pregnant from a place I was used to going to. At the end I had it more than a couple of times.
You have to do what you feel comfortable with.
