I'm really not sure when strawberries are okay, I thought after a year, but I think some have said after 2? I think DS had them around 15 months. I do know you should probably try things alone first, so if DC has not had bananas, give those first.

Blueberries are the least allergenic of berries I think, so that's a good one to try first. Then raspberries or blackberries.

i give DS strawberry flavored things all the time - pureed foods, puffs, etc. he's never had a reaction. i still wouldn't give plain strawberries until after a year though.

i think i gave him the strawberry banana food around 6 months.

The dr told me processed berries were fine. We had to wait until 1 year for fresh berries.

Maybe I'm just berry confused Chat Icon

For the life of me, I can't remember what it was but for some reason when my DS was a baby, I thought there was some berry thing...None of us have any allergies, so I'm thinking she'd be fine anyhow....

Re: Strawberry mixed baby food...When can they have it ?

Im an old fart...and the old school way was to always wait until they were a year old until you could give them berries...so I was surprised when I saw berry things for infants.

I asked the ped who said that it was whole berries now that they say to wait to give...and that something berry flavored (such as yogurt) was definitely OK....

I know that people can be allergic to fresh peaches but be OK with peach preserves or peach pie b/c the allergen is cooked out of it...(I dont know if this is true for berries but I thought Id throw it out there)

Ha, you're right. I have heard and read many places that you should try and stay away from strawberries, especially if one of the parents have an allergy. Strawberries have a high allergy rate. My DD is 9 months and she had the strawberry/banana baby food a few weeks ago and LOVES it. My ped said the same thing.. strawberry flavored things and the babyfood is ok, but to hold off on fresh fruits if i'm concerned. Although I think fresh would be fine too.
