Leaving them for the first time Sat night and I'm nervous, am I crazy?
DH and I are going to a concert Saturday night and my parents will be babysitting - putting them to bed and everything. This is the first time I will be leaving them for an extended period of time, and I am so nervous. DH thinks I am crazy and my mom keeps telling me we should go to dinner and leave them for even longer, but I just don't know if I can do that much all at once. I know DH and I need this time to ourselves, we haven't had time for just us since they were born 6 months ago, and I am afraid I won't even be able to enjoy myself lbecause I will be thinking about them the whole time - did they go to sleep? Are they crying? They are having a bit of stranger anxiety lately and don't seem to like my father. Uhhh. I don't know what I'm looking for here. Just venting I guess!

Definitely GO!!! It will get easier. Of course you're going to worry. Just call them once or twice and then enjoy yourselves.
And have a date night more frequently if your parents are willing to babysit. I think all couples need that. Plus it will get easier to leave them and not worry so much because you know they're in good hands. i think after the first time your parents watch them and do a GREAT job, you'll feel much better.

It's so hard. I had to leave Alexa at 14 weeks with DH for the day to go into NYC for a conference for work. It was SOOO HARD and she was with DH!
ITs good to get a break from them and they will be with people you love and who love them very much!

The first few times are really hard, but soon enough that anxiety goes away. Plus they are in the best hands - Grandma and Grandpa!!

I know how you feel, we're lleaving our 8 month old at my mom's overnight next week, we have a wedding. I'm not nervous that he'll need me or my mom won't take the best care of him, I'm sad that I haven't been away from him in 8 months and I'm gonna miss him!
It'll be ok, just one of those things we need to do, and it will be perfectly fine!

Oh, go and enjoy every second!!! Your parents have some time to bond with their grandchildren, and you and DH will have some adult time! You can always call and check in, but they are in good hands and there is nothing to worry about!

Re: Leaving them for the first time Sat night and I'm nervous, am I crazy?
Lauren - I've SO been there too! The first time we went out after Samantha was born we left her with my MIL and I literally had a panic attack all the way to my IL's. I could not enjoy my evening with DH at all, in the end it was really because I was not ready to leave her for an extended period of time. However, the fact that she did SO well and wasn't phased by the change of routine was comforting and helped me to get over that separation anxiety on my part.
Try to have fun!

its hard, but Lauren you gotta do it. The first time is the worst, but it gets easier.
And I would totally do the whole date night thing with dinner as well.

Definitely go! It's important for DH and you to get out and be a couple now and then. It does get much easier, the first time away from your babies will be the hardest. I remember the first time we left DS with a babysitter--I was so worried, she had great references and worked at a summer camp in town, and I actually saw her with kids before she watched my own. She was really good, but I was still convinced something would happen.
Go and enjoy!
