I guess part of it is that I'm SO sensitive about my belly. Every time I put something on that is fitted, I worry if I look pregnant. When I eat anything I get super bloated and it makes it look worse. So I am FOREVER asking myself if I look pregnant, and to finally have a stranger ask me in a supermarket (which is pretty humiliating as you are buying food), was just awful.
When people say mean things to hurt you, it is usually based on the truth. I hate that I'm a target because he never would have said that to a skinny chick.
I am so sorry that some COMPLETE JERK said that to you! People sometimes have diarrheaaaaa of the mouth, I swear!
I can really really relate to your experience though - I carry a lot of my weight in my belly and absolutely HATE it.

Re: I didn't expect to get insulted tonight while grocery shopping
I'm sorry that you had to go through that It's happened to me 3 times before, so I know the pain it causes. One old guy screamed at me for smoking because he thought I was pg & told me that I was a horrible mom that should go to he!! and the second time was a week after I had had an early miscarriage. I finally stood up & said something to the last person that asked me & she said got all snotty & said "Well I'm sorry, it's just that you've gotten so big the past few months." In the end, I don't know that there's ever a good response...it's going to hurt no matter what. All you can do is keep telling yourself that he's a d!ck, that his life is really sad & how you are a WAY better person than he could ever hope to be

Just let it go..... when I was roughly 24 (super single and a size 10) people at work began a rumor that I was pregnant. Likely becuase I always had a little pouch under my navel, and I just gained a size from the year before (mind you, I'm 5'9"... so a size 10 (and 140 lbs) was hardly big..... In my dreams I'm somewhere close to that size today I think my current self must have eaten my former self )
I think my scenario was especially malicious becuase it was a work, and it went on for WEEKS Obviously, my experience proves that it doesn't mean your fat when someone says something like that, it merely means the people speaking are thoughtless and mean.
just keep loving yourself as you are

this happened to me once too on the subway. i went home and cried. now i am 36 weeks pregnant and no one says anything nice--- in fact, i was pushed three times in Costco the other day and yelled at for taking too long to pack my cart. people are rude and obnoxious and say the most callous things. some people just don't think. i am sorry that happened to you!

That's really strange that someone would say that to you - a complete stranger - he definitely must have issues!! Try not to make it bother you! Some people are strange

A little better, thanks I was in a funk most of the day and locked myself in my office. I didn't get much sleep last night I was so upset. But I had to teach from 5-8 tonight, so it's hard to stay crabby when you have to deal with students. Not fair to them.
Thanks everyone for the support. I really appreciate it.

That guy is some gem. I'm angry for you. I don't think I would have said anything. I would have walked up to him and kicked him in the shins...

Re: I didn't expect to get insulted tonight while grocery shopping
Ug, you know what?? People $uck. He wanted to try to bring you down for his own insecurities. If it wasn't you it would have been someone else. I ran out to CVS buy my 96 year old grandmother some Imodium and 2 little punks were behind me making fun of me. I just turned around and told them to grow up and have some respect for other people. No, it wasn't funny or some great put down, but it made me feel better to let them know they weren't 'getting' to me. Chin up, you're married to a great guy who thinks you're beautiful
