Question maybe it is me

All these home shows we watch everyone wants a double sink in the bathroom. They actually walk away from buying a home if it's not there. Dh and I are like why the hell would you need a double sink?

What your going to brush teeth next to each other? Or One can brush teeth while another shaves?

To me if your in the bathroom - your in there alone. This isn't a buddy system. Or are we odd?

I could care less also. DH and I do not get ready at the same time in the morning so it doesn't effect us

Re: Question maybe it is me

yea i am always in the bathroom by myself , no need for double sinks for us. it would be pointless.

Re: Question maybe it is me

i like dual sinks - DH and i *try* to get ready for bed at the same time but with one sink it is really hard Chat Icon you both can't wash your face and brush your teeth at the same time - so we always end up fighting eachother for who gets to go first Chat Icon Chat Icon so i think dual sinks would be nice....plus he can keep his stuff under the sink on his side and vice versa - now all of our stuff (razors, shaving cream, lotions, soap, blow dryer, hair gel etc.) is lumped together in the same cabinet which i hate - it would be nice to have seperate cabinets....

it wouldnt be a dealbreaker for us though - especially since you can always add another sink on later if you have to have it....

i always think thats funny, too!
DH and i get ready for work at the same time, but we have 2 bathrooms, so he uses one and i use the other one. and at night when we get ready for bed, we just take turns and we manage to live to tell about it Chat Icon
in our old house, we only had ONE bathroom with ONE sink- now THAT i don't know how we did!
of course, i grew up in a house with only one bathroom for 3 women--- so my perspective might be "off" LOL

dh and I just built our home, we did not want a double sink, we bought a cute cherry cabinet sink where the bowl comes out over.

Re: Question maybe it is me

We have a double sink. I LOVE it.

It's just more convenient. It definitely wouldn't be a deal breaker for us if we didn't have one though. I would however need a large vanity if we had just one sink.

Re: Question maybe it is me

Oh please. Those morons on those home shows make me laugh. Either it's the double sink thing, or they hate the color on the walls (ever hear of paint??????????), or they expect the house to be exactly to their taste walking in the door... (ew, no granite countertops?, no massively huge walk in closet?, no pool???, no "man room".....).

I sit there and yell at the tv half the time. They also want a palace to live in with the budget for a 2 bedroom.... and get annoyed when the rooms are small... Chat Icon

Back to the two sink thing... we have never had it, and I don't miss it. We just take turns for the possible 2 days out of the year that we are in the bathroom at the same time wanting to brush our teeth. Chat Icon I would NEVER walk away from house because of that!

Re: Question maybe it is me

Those shows drive me nuts. I don't like watching them all that much, but I do find myself Chat Icon at the TV when I do. You can always change something in a house. Especially the paint color. Chat Icon That one kills me the most. But the runner up is the "Oh it doesn't have a double sink honey". Give it up. If the bathroom is big enough, you can add it. If the bathroom has two bathrooms you don't need it.

We do not have a double sink, but we do have a large vanity. It works for us. And IF we are in the bathroom at the same time, we just do different things when getting ready.

Re: Question maybe it is me

I like to be in the bathroom ALONE...so, I see no need for a double sink.

Those home shows are crazy sometimes...people won't buy a house because they don't like the furniture...DUH., the sellers are taking the furniture when they leave!

Re: Question maybe it is me

I would only want double sinks b/c that means more counter space to me

I wouldn't walk away from a house b/c of it

those shows on HGTV are mostly in other parts of the country where the homes are 80% new construction- I think things like double sinks are much more common in new construction and doing major renovations are not common

Re: Question maybe it is me

well that is it if we got one fine but it would never be a deal breaker because we both go in at separate times.

That is it these shows drive me nuts - its my reality drama that i need. Oh my god that is too red = PAINT? Oh the closet isn't walk in - Um not everyone has a walk in.

I wish LI had new built homes for 250K - i can't even get a 1950's home in decent shape for that price it seems.

Re: Question maybe it is me

Personally I like having a double sink. If the bathroom didn't have it it wouldn't be a deal breaker but if it only had a single sink that would probably mean the bathroom is somewhat small. I like having a big master with a large soaking tub.

I agree though - the things that are on people's must have lists are sometimes kind of silly. Especially the things that are so easy to add/change.

Re: Question maybe it is me

Definitely not a deal breaker, but, we have 2 - one in each of the full bathrooms, and I do really like it. We both get ready at the same time pretty much every morning, so it's very convenient. And I think when we have kids, I'll be happy we have the other one too, cause if we have a few kids, we won't have to deal with them fighting to get ready for school Chat Icon

But definitely not something that I was actually looking for in a house...

Re: Question maybe it is me

We have room in our master for 2 sinks, but when we redid it, we only put in one. We would never be in there at the same time, so why would I want another sink to clean?

Re: Question maybe it is me

I don't get it either....DH and I have no interest in brushing our teeth at the same time. The only benefit I can see would be that DH would have his own sink and I wouldn't have to see the toothpaste he always leaves behind.

Re: Question maybe it is me

now that I think about it

when we redid the kids bathroom in my parents house- they added 2 sinks

we had a huge counter and were always fighting over the sink

I think it's more useful in the kids bathroom then the master

there were 3 of us- and we were always in there at the same time getting ready in the morning and for bed

we gave one sink to my brother- b/c he made a mess with the tooth paste

and me and my sister shared the other- which always had our hair in it from blowing it out - my brother hated that
