I have been looking for 3 yearsChat Icon
I could have sold my current house 6 times since then but we passed on offers because we never found a new house. My house is currently schedule to close and we still do not have a new house! We did put a bid on a short sale yesterday. I guess I will be living in an apt Chat Icon

Re: How long did it take....

about 3-4 months and about 75-100 houses in that time. We went to open houses when we could and went with our REA other times. It takes time, don't rush your selves. It's a big purchase. Try to enjoy this time looking and waiting for "The One" Chat Icon GL! Chat Icon

Re: How long did it take....

We looked for about a year! First we looked for about 6 months just casually, then another 6 months just about every weekend going to open houses and with an agent. We actually found our house when DH went to the open house without me on a whim...he called me almost as soon as he walked in to come meet him there because he thought I would love it and I did!

we gave ours up - it was becoming such a headache....we saved enough money while we were waiting to boost up our price range a little - so we saw some other houses while we were down for memorial day and decided to just withdraw on it.....but we still havent found anything else...well we did see something but the property is really overpriced - sellers agent is trying to convince the owners to come down b/c they are being unrealistic but until that happens we have to keep lookingChat Icon

Re: How long did it take....

2 months.

we started looking in very early april. in mid-april, we found 2 houses we loved and made offers on both. both offers were accepted and we chose one.

however that fell thru and we ended up making the same offer as before on the 2nd house a month later, and it was accepted again (lucky for us it was still on the market!)

hopefully we will sign the contract this week... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

i think in total, we looked at about 40-60 houses.

Re: How long did it take....

we researched on line for about a month and thenactually went to look at houses for 2 weekends.

So 2 weeks of actual going in person and looking. But I think that is a rareity since dh is a realtor and did a lot of the research for us

Re: How long did it take....

We got our accepted offer on our house in the beginning of April.... we started looking immediately. We were out everyday and every minute was spent looking online and driving around.. it was horrific. I hate the entire house hunting process. We found a few houses, but they either accepted another offer, or were taken off the market... we were literally Chat Icon . BUT we found the house we are in contract now in about a month and a half into looking, and should be closing in mid July.. so a total of 2-3 months.

Re: How long did it take....

We found our house in 3 months but it was being built so from the time we started looking to the time we closed it was 9 months.

We started looking in Jan of 06, we found our house in April and that's when we signed our contracts. We closed the first week in September.

Re: How long did it take....

6 months, about 50-60 houses. When it became "much" we would take a weekend off and not even think about it. Sometimes a break clears your head. Its a big decision and can get really stressful, so i think occasional breaks is needed sometimes.

Re: How long did it take....

It was only about a month from when we started looking to accepted offer, but then we faced crazy "extenuating circumstances" and didn't close until 6 months later.
