Re: stressing about house location

We're on a road with a double yellow line and it was a concession on our "want" list to get everything else we wanted - great town and SD, large lot, big house and rooms, fireplace, basement, 2.5 bathrooms, 4 bedrooms, etc. and within our price range. We don't have children and are beyond the age where we're considering it. Our neighbors on one side have 6 kids, and the other side has 4, so it hasn't stopped them and the kids all survived. It may be a drawback for some, but given the size of our house, it's more of a "move up" rather than a starter home so less of a concern regarding very young children.

I probably would keep looking. Like someone else said, it's not just the noise and safety factor but also thinking about re-sale down the road.

ITA. Deal breaker for me.

I agree, I'd keep looking...

Re: stressing about house location

not a deal breaker for me

what's the main road??

I live on a dead-end which crosses with a road that has double yellow line (oh wait, you have been to my house
Chat Icon )

some people had the same issue with my house. but I rather live on a street that once you get t0 25-30mph you need to break because you have no where else to go then live on a street that people speed from stop sign to stop sign.

My DS is 2.5 and loves to ride his bike in the street. He knows where he can ride to.

Re: stressing about house location

I live on a one lane road that's also a dead end and people still drive way too fast down it, however, I still wouldn't buy a house that close to a main road for resale value.

I live on a corner in front of a main road and while it was not our first choice, it has worked out fine for us. We simply couldn't resist the house because it had everything we wanted and was in our price range in a good SD. It's walkable to tennis courts, playgrounds, and schools which is great for when DS gets older. All of the houses around us have multiple kids and they weren't bothered by the location of their homes. The neighbors are great too, so we were willing to accept living off a main road.

On the other hand, if traffic is always a concern, DS will always be aware of cars. If you are on a quieter road with only the occasional speed-demon, you and DS may have a false sense of security, and potentially be more at risk of something happening.

Great point!!

Near one, maybe, it would depend. We considered one house like this, but didn't choose it for other reasons. In retrospect, we are glad we didn't--we're on a very quiet street now, and like it much better.

Still, I would get a fence if one isn't there, and watch DC like a hawk. Still it's hard--DS ran into the road in front of our house before I could stop him yesterday, and luckily, no cars.

we are on a very quiet street that has no real taffic but we are close to a 30MPH road with a double line. People do drive way too fast, I call it the redneck raceway Chat Icon
but its a really a very residential road that goes around the perimeter of the lake so its heavily traveled.
It doesn't bother me much.
