My Guilt, please tell me I am doing the right thing?
So I am really excited, i was accepted into a nursing program to get my RN.
However, I work full time during the day. I have been taking classes at night all along, but it hasn't been too bad.
I think this program is going to take a lot out of me, and a lot of time away from my DS. How do I justify this? I am doing this so I can make more money and have a better schedule in the future that would allow me to be home with my DS and if we have another child.
It will be 2-3 nights away every week, he will be asleep by the time I get home. the only way I can rationalize it is that its only a semesters length, and then I will have some time off in between. Am I a terrible mother? Is there anyone else that has worked full time and raise a child and been in a demanding program and made it?
Please tell me it will be okay

My sister is in a nursing program and it is a ton of work, so you will be very busy. Remember you are sacrificing a little in the short term to provide a better life for your family in the long term. It is so worth it. Congratulations on your acceptance into the program!

You are doing the right thing.
I am working full time AND attending graduate school full time. I have to do 600 hours during my internship as well and it's going to suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck... It takes a LOT out of my schedule, but it's temporary.. Weekends become very important and as long as you spend the little moments you have with DS, he should be absolutely FINE.
You're doing it to better your life and in the long run, that's what is best for him as well.

I think wanted to provide for your child is important and a worthwhile goal. yes, it will be hard. I think you will have to make sure that you spend some quality, no interruption time with your child when you are not in school and just explain that this is not for a long time- just for a short time so you can get a great job and be home more in the future. Congrats!!

You just answered your own question. I think this is exactly why.
Posted by lulugrrl I am doing this so I can make more money and have a better schedule in the future that would allow me to be home with my DS and if we have another child.
go you!

You ask "how do I justify this?" and then answer the question yourself!!!!!
You are NOT a terrible mother!! You are making smart choices for your family. Congrats on being accepted into the program!!

Re: My Guilt, please tell me I am doing the right thing?
thanks everyone. I really do appreciate the encouragement. I really do want a better future for all of us, and set a good example for my Son..how do I tell him to go to college, if I never did, HA!
Specialty..not sure. I know when I did an LPN program n high school I loooved Peds, something about those amazing kids. I think my viewpoint now though may be changed, and might not be able to handle it.
L&D is a GREAT idea ...My AUnt who helped deliver Parker could prob. help me out there.
So I just regisered for my first class..starting June 1 even though I am not supposed to start until the fall, but this will allow me to NOT take 2 classes next spring, so should be for the best...

Congratulations!!! Nursing is such a wonderful career. You are going to be helping so many others in addition to your family.
You are NOT a terrible mother. You're just the opposite. You're trying to give your son a better life and having a better schedule/more money will allow for that. Spend as much time with him while you can and he'll be fine.
CONGRATS!!!
