Those who have lawns AND pets/children
This is our first year in our home, and first year with grass! I have a dog who has decided he likes to snack on our grass. Therefore, i need to figure out how to keep the lawn in decent shape WITHOUT any kind of chemicals or toxins. We have to do some seeding because we removed a pool which is now patchy, We also have weeds starting to pop up. Are they any safe products that will let us grow and maintain grass without killing my pooch. Any ideas appreciated?
Here is a picture of said grass and pup!

Use organic fertilizer. Go to a gardening center, and tell them you have pets and children and need a SAFE organic fertilizer. Its a little more money, but SO worth it.

Consider spreading compost instead of fertilizer too. I don't even fertilize my lawn, and it's lush and beautiful with no weeds except on the edges where it needs to fill in. It's zoysia grass, goes tan in winter which a lot of people hate though. I don't mind so much.

The good kind.
I don't buy it from stores, I make my own so I'm not even sure, but I like all organics. A company I love is called Terracycle, here is their line of plant food, compost, etc:
Terracycle
It sounds gross but worm poop is like GOLD to soil. Terracycle's products are starting to show up in stores around here - believe it or not I saw it in Petco in Lake Grove the other day. But I'm going to make an online order this year and spread it around my yard.

I think I have seen it at Target in the garden area.

Re: Those who have lawns AND pets/children
I bought an organic lawn "booster" (fertilizer) this year. There are usually corn based.
You will need to do it 3-4 times per year.
Early Spring Late Spring Early Fall Late Fall
I talked to about 3-4 people at nurseries. They all tell me it's a "slowler" process... aka if you did like me and did not fertilize for 3 years AND have weeds, then it would take you 3 years to get it back in shape.
There are organic weed killers too for the lawn. You have to apply them when the yellow flowering bush are blooming (NOW!!!). But you cannot seed grass until Fall if you need to to that now.
