Re: BTDT Moms who rented breast pumps from the hospital........
I rented one for the month and I believe it was 75$ for the month? Maybe more....
It wasn't from the hospital though, it was from the lactation specialist who worked at the hospital (she had a seperate business)

Re: BTDT Moms who rented breast pumps from the hospital........
So would you recomment renting one for a month to see how it goes and then go out and buy one?

This is what I did, you end up spending more if it works out, but I wanted to make sure I was going to BF before I spent $$$ on a good double electric pump

I rented one from a local pharmacy in Garden City and paid $60 a month.
ETA: I gave birth at North Shore and they don't rent them there. They will give you a list of places which do though.

I definitely recommend this. We rented one for $70 a month. If you go out and buy one and you decide that BFing or pumping doesn't work for you, you are stuck with that pump as they are not returnable. So this is a great alternative.
Just FYI, I had to purchase the $50 kit that goes with the hospital pump (tubing, valves, etc.)

Just wanted to add one thing about the attachments needed for the hospital grade pumps--I got them FREE from the hospital. I rented an Ameda pump. Just ask before you leave.

Re: BTDT Moms who rented breast pumps from the hospital........
I rented the day I left the hospital. I almost wasn't able to because all the pumps had been rented out. We lucked out and got one that was returned the day I was discharged. We paid $75 for a month, but they also had a plan where you could rent 10-15 days at a time. It was expensive to rent, but totally worth it to make sure that I wanted to spend money on my own Medela.

I rented it from the hospital (was through the lactation department). I was able to take mine home that day with me from the hospital and the charge was 50/month. I did a month by month

Re: BTDT Moms who rented breast pumps from the hospital........
I didn't rent.... I just bought.... IMO, it's a waste of $. A good lansinoh double electric pump is about $130..... if you rent, you're spending roughly $70 + an additional $50 or so for the supplies... then you have to return it at the end of the month! No $ savings there.....
Ameda/lansinoh pump has very good reviews, and is the only home pump approved by the FDA, since it's the only pump whose tubing doesn't get contaminated with milk, so the machine can be completely sanitized.
HTH!
