HELP!!!!!!

I don't know what to do. My DH and I just applied for health insurance which starts March 28th. (when I got let go from my job I didn't elect Cobra because it was a fortune). Now..I'm not PG now, but I got my peak reading today. The insurance considers pregnancy a "pre existing condition" therefore I wouldn't be covered. So, I'm not sure if I should continue to try this month. But waiting another month will break my heart. If I got my BFP this month will I be 2 weeks or 4 weeks pregnant when I test???? This way I can say it was after March 28th? I'm so confused.

I thought pregnancy couldn't be considered pre-existing in NYS.

Most women don't know they're pregnant for the 1st month or so. Even if you succeeded....you 'wouldn't know' until a couple weeks after you missed your period. Does it count as pre-existing if you aren't aware of it?!?!?! How could they hold you accountable for something that you have no clue about?

When did you stop working? you have 60 days to Cobra. If you did in fact get pregnant would the time frame allow you to get coverage still (i.e. when you find out you are pregnant you will have left your job less than 60 days ago).

im sorry..thats the most effed up thing i've heard in a while...pre-existing condition?? anything not to pay -unreal!!

i think you know your answer...... Unless you are financially able to pay out of pocket for every expense, I would wait.

It's only a month, I know it stinks but you will get through it.

I would hold off until you are sure you have coverage. The stress of possibly having to pay out of pocket, perhaps go up against insurance company, and trying to conceive is more than I could handle. Best of luck to you.

i know it's not the answer you want to hear but if you can wait a month to start your coverage then do that...the costs involved would kill you for OOP.

I am not sure about pregnancy but I have seen people get stuck with bills because of insurance games. I have also seen insurance companies not pay for any treatment or condition that you have been treated for in the past 6 months. If I was in that situation I would wait just to see what the rules are and call to double check things. I hope it all works our for you

I in in jersey and they do consider it pre-existing. Basically I spoke to someone at the insurance agency and she said it's not like I'm finding out I'm pregnant this week....I would just be concieving this week. So since they don't know when conception def happens, and I'm now covered starting March 28th..the 4 days won't make a difference. So, we went ahead and BD'd and if worse comes to worse I can say that I o'd next week. I got my peak kind of early anyway this month...so the 4 days wouldn't be so far fetched.

Plus..when I applied for the insurance I was not pregnant and they ask if you are...so hopefully we are good to go.

Just call the insurance company and find out. It is my understanding that pregnancy cannot be a pre-exisiting condition in NY. Also, to be a pre-exisiting condition, you have to have been "treated" for it in the first place. Even with a chronic illness if you haven't been treated for it in 6 months it's no longer pre-exisiting (including taking any medication).

Don't not try without calling up the new insurance company and finding out first.
