where did you get it?

I had seen a 36" x 8' kit that included trim on homedepot.com but the shipping is crazy.

In store they only seem to have 24" and either small panels (like 1 ft) or kinda cheap looking longer panels.

DH was looking online for other options and I told him I'd check here since I've seen it in some nursery pics.

We got ours at Home Depot. DH didn't want the kit with the 24 or 36" short panels since our ceilings are so high it would've looked silly, so we bought the 8' high panels and cut them to 4' high. Each panel isn't very wide (they were 8' x 12" i think) so it took us a bit longer to put up, but they lock into eachother and came already primed.

I just looked and hd.com doesn't have them on there, i think they sell them in the store only. It's in it's own little section and the matching chair rail/base molding kit is in the same section.

Here's a pic, you can see what they look like, they were double the length but we cut them down to 4' high:

Not sure where DH got it (I think Home Depot or Lowes), but he's also a contractor so it's what he does for a living. Sometimes it's great having a handyman and other times he wants to do too many projects in the house. Right now my house is under construction b/c he's making the baby's room bigger and my house is a mess. Chat Icon

Re: If you did/are doing wainscotting/beadboard in the baby's room ...

I was just telling Gina how we did ours, so I figured I would just repeat it here:

We went to Home Depot and bought the wainscoting sheets. They are 8 ft tall and then we had them cut them in half so they go up 4ft now.

We used liquid nails (it's like a glue) to get them to stick to the walls but we also put in a few real nails just to be sure.

We just went around the room gluing and nailing it up and then went back around with the base molding nailing that up. Anywhere we used a nail, we put caulking over the nail hole to cover it. We also used caulking where the sheets would meet so you can't see a seam.

We need to go back to Home Depot and pick out the chair rail we are going to use on top but I assume we stick it up the same way (liquid nail and a few real nails).

Oh -- you will also need a jigsaw because you'll have to cut out around the windows, light fixtures, electrical outlets, etc...

Thanks!!! So cutting the 8 footers sounds like the way to go! We have pretty low ceilings though so I need to see if 4ft is going to look silly. Even so, we can still always cut to 3ft with 2ft of waste.

Sorry to jump in here with a question but while we are on the topic...

our rooms have really nice baseboard mouldings - do we have to take those off to install the beadboard?

Good question -- I would think you would want to take the baseboard off and then re-hang it. I say that because if you don't, you'll have the wainscoting sitting on the top ledge of the molding rather than behind it. Does that make sense?

Wendy -- how tall are your ceilings? Mine are 9ft (so a little on the short side) and 4 ft looks good to me. I was worried it would be "too much" but I love it. My suggestion would be to cut them to 4ft, take it home and look at it and then if it's too tall, re-cut. Home Depot didn't charge me anything to cut my sheets.

We bought ours but havent put it up yet. We got it at Long Island Paneling in Westbury because I wanted a slightly wider panel. We also bought 8' high ones and cut them to 4'.

I think they are only 8 feet? My DH is 6'5" and can reach up and touch the ceiling (trying to think if he needs to be on his toes!).

But good call on cutting to 4ft and seeing how it looks. I do think the one window in the room is 42" from the floor though and with the celing being a bit low and that window being sosrta squat, having the panel go up around it may be weird looking.
