Boy 20 Months crashes into building
How does this happen? Why was a 20 month old able to climb from the back seat to the front seat? Why wasn't he strapped into a car or booster seat? Was the father awake? How come he couldn't stop the toddler?

Sounds like the kid undid his belt to have fun in front seat since the car was stopped. Why would you let a child play with gear?????????

Re: Boy 20 Months crashes into building
DS is 22 months and loves to come into the driver seat--this usually happens when I am there and DH runs out to do an errand
I always make sure to take the keys out of the ignition since these toddler have ways of getting into everything

So strange. He could not have been strapped in, and I'm guessing someone showed him how to move that lever before. I wouldn't think he'd have the coordination to do it on his own or even realize how to move the car.

My guess is he would be copying his parent do it. Letting your kid play driver is one thing but take the keys out!

Don't you have to press the brake to change gear? I thought you did, maybe I am wrong. I think the father was letting him play around and the kid got it into gear and it happened fast and now he is not going to fess up. I know if it was my husband, I would have killed him . :)

Re: Boy 20 Months crashes into building
dh called me about it this morning....
a couple months ago when my sister was driving, my 3 year old nephew took a bag from the back seat- threw it into the front- it shifted the car from Drive to Neutral
we we soooooo lucky that she was pulling upto a traffic light, she was literally a couple hundred feet from hoping on the northern state, i could only imagine how bad that would have been
