WWYD: Pregnacy and Bridesmaid

So I know a couple of us girls are having this question over on the pregnancy board, but I am hopping over here to see if anyone was in my situation, or as woman who have all been 9 months pregnant, what would you do?

I am due Oct 21st (yes very far away, I'm still very early), but my friend's wedding is Oct 9th. She was in my bridal party, we have known each other since 2nd grade (we are 28 now). She had asked me to be in hers, I accepted. Now with the pregnancy thing, she gave the option to opt out. I really don't want to opt out, but everyone I know who has been pregnant has said I'm absolutely crazy to do it because at that point I will feel horrible.

So WWYD? Stay in the bridal party or opt out?

Knowing how my pregnancy went- very bloated ala preeclampsia, and the fact that I went 3 weeks and 1 day early- I would opt out. But everyone is different, so you may be a lot less miserable than I was at that point! Chat Icon Good luck with your decision! Chat Icon Chat Icon

i voted to opt out. but i think i would still lilke to help with the shower and activities..like being an honorary member.

but at that far along when the wedding comes you may not feel so hot and being in a dress and standing and stuff will be difficult.

I voted to help with the shower and activities, but to opt out of the "day of". I am 9 months pregnant now, and putting on a bridesmaid dress and being on my feet all day is the LAST thing I feel like doing!

Re: WWYD: Pregnacy and Bridesmaid

My sil was in her sisters wedding and gave birth like a week later. She had preterm labor and everything. She was huge int he dress but looked adorable.
My sister was in her sil wedding 2 weeks after giving birth. She just ordered a bigger size so no matter how big she was it would fit.
Both of them were tired but made it through it. You have to do whats right for you and be prepared that you may be giving birth instead of going to the wedding. But your doctor should have an idea by then when you will go. Chat Icon Chat Icon

How about doing a reading at the wedding? Then you are still part of it, but you don't have to worry about the dress, and if you can't make it, someone else can do the reading for you.

I would say if you want to be in it stay in, as long as it won't affect her ceremony if you go into labor and can't make it! Chat Icon

Re: WWYD: Pregnacy and Bridesmaid

I would help with the bridal shower and such but opt out of the wedding party. Since you will be so close to your due date, you probably won't feel too great. And it's going to be hard to determine a dress size, esp. since the last few weeks of pregnancy is when the baby gains the most weight. You are going to be super tired at that point (if you don't have the baby early) and having the added responsibility of being in the bridal party might be too much, IMO. Good luck with whatever you decide! Chat Icon

I would opt out and maybe try to help with a few things. I felt terrible the last few weeks of pregnancy though!!

Re: WWYD: Pregnacy and Bridesmaid

Pregnancy is unpredictable. I ended up on strict bedrest at almost 36 weeks and was induced at 38 weeks b/c of high BP. If you decide to stay in it, just make her aware that there's a chance you may not be able to be at the wedding.

Re: WWYD: Pregnacy and Bridesmaid

i would stay in the BP. but i had a great pregnancy, no complications, and i was out and about until the day before i delivered!

here is the issue i have: if she is giving you the option to opt out ONLY so that she can ask someone else to be in her BP, just so she can have an even # of bridesmaids and groomsmen, i personally think that is silly.

if YOU are okay with helping out, buying the dress, etc., and then possibly having to back out at the last minute for whatever reason, then i would do it.

Re: WWYD: Pregnacy and Bridesmaid

Tough call, since every pregnancy is sooo different. I felt completely fine right up to the end.

It sounds like you atleast want to be involved, so you should def be involved..... as far as doing the walking down the aisle duty - I would ask yourself if your friend would be upset/stressed if at the last minute you just really can't make it down the aisle -be it to an early delivery, or fatigue? If she's the type that will get stressed if things don't go as planned, it might be better to not go the dress route, cause its just to early to tell how you'll be feeling.

I think you should stay in.
I work until the day before I gave birth. I never saw a dilemma in being preggo and doing daily activities. If by chance you cant do it bc of all the negative factors (preeclampsia etc..) Then that is just like saying anything else can happen. I am not saying its ideal but I am hearing that you want to do it...so I would.Chat Icon

Re: WWYD: Pregnacy and Bridesmaid

I was in my sil bridal party, i was 9mths pregnant, i was huge and i think the dress didnt look good on me but i was fine, i wore flip flops under my dress, i made it through the whole day.... i was very tired and hot (it was in july) but i got through the whole day. i knew either way i would be at her wedding so i figured i might as well stay in the bridal party and be a part of her day as she was for mine.

Re: WWYD: Pregnacy and Bridesmaid

I would stay in. I was MOH in my BFF's wedding on October 8th and my DD was born October 31st. I didn't have any problems, just had to do fittings at the last minute.
