Tankless water heaters

We're considering getting this and I was wondering if anyone had recent with them.
No one we know has this so I figured I would ask on here. Pros/Cons any feed back would be great.

Thanks!

We were considering getting one but two plumbers discouraged us from doing so saying that sometimes the water doesn't have enough time to heat up and you end up with a luke warm shower.

My parents just got one. IMO, it is a big adjustment, but once you get used to it, it is fine.
Sometimes you have to wait a few minutes for the hot water, but once it come on it is fine. For the shower, you have to turn it all the way hot and let it run, then slowly add a little cold water.

My only real complaint with it -- the other day I was giving my DS a bath and the tub was full of warm water and I turned the water back on to rinse his hair and it came out ice cold at first - and took a minute to get warm.

They have no complaints.....are there any questions you want me to ask them?

We're getting luke warm water now. Not always but about 50% of the time.

No, not really. I guess I just wanted to hear real experiences with them and not just something I read off some website Chat Icon

I've read complaints about having to wait a few mintues for the hot water. The down side to that is the wasted water that's filling our cesspool while we're waiting for it to get hot.

I've had one for 2 years now. I LOVE it. I've never had a problem with lukewarm water at all- but we got a really high end unit (made by Rheem). It's definitely worth it IMO, you can run all the water inside and outside and it will still stay steaming hot. We save a TON of money with it.

We had one when we moved into the house and I hated it we got a regular hot water heater. I felt like we never had enough hot water.

We don't have one but my BIL who is a mach. Engineer does and they are very happy with it. He said you have to be really careful with the brand you buy because the quality really varies so this is key. He also says they are saving a ton of money.

Re: Tankless water heaters

I grew up with it & it was the worst. You had to wait in between showers bc the hot water was limited. Plus my mom was not able to do dishes as we showered

When we moved into our house, it was such a pleasure that both DH & I could shower at the same time in different showers & run the dishwasher & still have plenty of water.

Just from experience, i would not recommend tankless

We've had one for a few years now! LOVE it! Ours is run on gas, with electric ignition. Endless supply of hot water! Never runs cold! I'm not sure how people with a tankless water heater can say you ran out of hot water ?? It heats your water on demand, so as long as the water is on (and on hot), you will get your water heated.

Ours is a 6 gpm one. We can both take showers at the same time and have no issues with water pressure. I'm a huge multi-tasker, and have put a load of laundry in, run the dishwasher and taken a shower at the same time and still had plenty of hot water.

There is one downside - and that is since the water is heated on demand (saving $$ since its not a tank that is constantly being heated), when you first get up in the morning and the water hasn't been run all night, it does take a minute or two to get the hot water flowing. The energy savings by letting the water run a minute or two is far greater than having a 40-gal tank being constantly heated.

An old post I made

I'm just curious because it almost sounds as if you have them reversed! If hot water is "limited", it would seem you have a hot water tank, probably 30-50 gallons or so, and it eventually runs out, so you'd have to wait until the next batch of water heated in the water tank.

Sounds like you have a tankless in your house from your second paragraph description.

I was going to say the same thing. I think they're reversed too.

Have it and hate it. Once we switch to gas (this summer) were getting a tank. The shower is either too hot or too cold, and if the heat is on forget about getting even a warm shower.

Re: Tankless water heaters

keep in mind, there are different sizes of heaters...so depending on how much water you need for x amount of items (sink, shower, dishwasher) this may or may not be the solution for you.

I agree 100%.
One of the best investments we made & it was tax deductible!
I'm not sure of the model/make..I'll have to go to the basement to check it out.

Your welcome.

Bausch makes a great one too but the Rheem warranty was 1 year longer.

We have a Bosch AquaStar 2400E Natural Gas Tankless Water Heater
Model 2400E-NG.

No complaints at all. Very happy with it. We have 3 showers in the house and with guests, have used them all at the same time with no problem!

I know for a fact that we had tankless when I lived home with my parents. When we changed our heating system over in our new house, my DH wanted to go Tankless & when we asked the installers, they agreed that it was not the best option. Having the separate hot water heater has worked out so much better for us & our needs. I guess it is like everything else, some like it & some don't.

Re: Tankless water heaters

We have a new hot water heater, so I'm not planning on replacing it yet, but in a few years, I want to look into a solar hot water tank with the TWH to supplement. The solar panels (not tied into the photovoltaic electric panels I already have) should be able to heat 90% or more of our hot water needs, and the TWH will just compensate if we don't have enough hot water from the solar panels.

Re: Tankless water heaters

You should get the one with the best flow "Gallons" per minutes. The higher the number the better because your not really going to get that number.....

How old is the unit at your parents' house? I am sure units made now are more efficient and work better.
