When you are in the hospital and in labor...
.... do you HAVE to wear the gown they give you or can you wear your own night shirt from home? I mean I know you can wear your own PJ's or loungewear after delivery but I was wondering about during labor? Thanks!!

Oooooh didnt take in the messy part! Your right. I was just thinking, should I buy a comfy night shirt at Target or something just to make myself comfortable during labor but then I wasnt sure if we had to wear the hospital gown and how comfortable/uncomfortable is it. Thanks

Yes, totally wear the hospital gown. Labor can get a bit messy.

You have to wear the gown. At least where I delivered. And yes, it's super-messy so you probably will want to as well ;).

Re: When you are in the hospital and in labor...
I think also, on top of the messy factor, the maternity hospital gowns have snaps along the shoulders so it can come on and off easily around IV's and monitors should you be there for a while. To me, thin cotton that's been washed a hundred times is comfy! I love thin worn out sheets! So I think the hospital gowns are like that. There are also now available custom made designer maternity hospital gowns so you can have a nice floral print fabric if you want. They are made with the snaps so they should be allowed by your hospital. Do a google for maternity hospital gowns.
My cousin got a couple for her shower.

The hospital gown was quite comfy actually! (Although not too stylish ).
I changed into my own clothes shortly after I delivered. It felt great to put on my maternity sweats and long sleeve tee..that is what i'm always most comfortable in!

I wore my own nightgown and took it off when I was ready to start pushing. When my son was born I had nothing on, and he went straight onto my chest for a lovely cuddle. Lovely.

Agreed. I had two boys and would never have wanted to wear anything of mine. By the end I don't even remember if the gown was even still on me:)
