From Massapequa, it'd be a little less than an hour. From Smithtown, about an hour and a half and you'd probably have to change at Jamaica.

I live in Smithtown, but take the train from Brentwood. The train ride is 62 minutes on an Express. The trains from the SMithtown station are much slower and never run as frequently as the Ronkonkoma line...

Massapequa is on Babylon line which runs pretty frequently (and usually without problems). In the morning on an express it's less than an hour and usually the same going home.

Smithtown to NYC is a HIKE. I used to live in eastern suffolk, and the PP that said an hour and a half is accurate. Massapequa's express train will get you there in half that time.

Massapequa is way better. The Babylon line is one of the best. If you go from Ronkonkoma you would be better off but it's still a long ride!

Re: Manhattan commute from Smithtown and Massapequa.

the commute from Smithtown sucks. My DH did it for years and by the time you drive to the station (for msot people it's the Ronkonkoma station) find parking and then the train ride, it was 2 hours one way... just insanity.

i would go with the Massapequa house if the main deciding factor is commute time. also, the babylon line is good...you very rarely have to transfer and Jamaica and there a lot of express trains.

there are a few port jefferson line trains that go directly into penn.

maybe 1-2 a day in each direction (like the 449)

My DH commutes from Massapequa - it's very do-able according to him! We house hunted in the Northport area and were so tempted to buy there but the commute would have killed us. DH's hrs are long enough!
