nose jobs

i just found out that a family member got a nose job. well you might say good for her but... she had a very noticable nose and so does all three of her daugthers. to me they are all beautiful with it. we all thought she was hot even with the nose. i wonder, do you think her daughters will be self conscious now that their mom changed her nose? i would think that would give them a complex don't you think? am i reading too into it?

Re: nose jobs

I don't think it really matters because she is her own person and her daughter's are their own people - I'm sure this woman's daughters were aware of the fact that she had chosen to get her nose done - and were most likely OK with it.

I think that it is difficult to try and predict what a person is thinking or what they are going through when they decide to have surgery to change something about themselves - obviously, no one really "wants" to do that but some people feel like they have to and I can try to imagine what that must be like for a person. I think anything that makes them feel better about themselves - more power to them. It really isn't right for anyone else to say or think anything about it because they are not in that person's position and don't know what they are feeling about themselves.

Not saying you feel this way - just a lot of people's perceptions of plastic surgery really make me wonder sometimes - it is hard to really know/say unless you are THAT person so that is why I have such a hard time commenting on those situations.

Re: nose jobs

I honestly think that this woman made an adult decision for herself and if comments are made to (or regarding her children), she might want to speak with them and tell them that when THEY are adults, they can make adult decisions too. I know that sounds simple, but that would be my bottom line.

The daughters might be very comfortable in their own skin, but if the mother is not, she has every right to make changes.

Nah, I got my mom's nose and about 5 years ago she got a nose job. It didn't at all make me feel like I needed one or give me a complex. No one has ever made me feel like I was ugly, but I have a feeling my mom WAS raised believing things like that and it just took her this long to be able to splurge on herself and not have to provide as much for me and sis. I was super happy for her!

funny you posted this we were just having a conversation on LIW about plastic surgery..
i have always wanted a nose job but the reason im not going to get it is bc what if my future children get my nose? it would be basically telling them 'well mommy thinks youre beautiful they way you are but i changed my nose' KWIM

if I was that unhappy about something- I would change it

I think there is a lesson to be learned in that as well

and I would encourge my childern to do the same

I do know someone whose mom had a lot of work done, and the daughter did look a lot like the mom before her surgeries.

She didn't tell me directly, but I have herd it was difficult for her, but I think it was all going on when she was a pre-teen & her parents had just gotten divorced, and there was just a lot of uncertainty going on her life at the time. The daughter is an adult now & hasn't had anything done.

Re: nose jobs

No, I don't think it will have any effect on the daughters, it was her personal decision.

2 years ago my BFF had "breast enhancement", she has a then, 13 yo daughter who is not phased by it at all and doesn't care in the least.

I think you are reading to much into it. They aren't going to have a complex cause mom had plastic surgery. Now if she tells her kids daily how ugly their noses are...that's a complex waiting to happen. I hate my nose, parents never mentioned a thing or had any surgeries.

Re: nose jobs

Is it possible that the mom got the nose job for a health reason, so it wouldn't impact her daughters' thoughts on their own looks either way?

Re: nose jobs

don't get me wrong here. i'm all for fixing yourself if its fixable. i think my major thing is that i myself have often thought about a nose job but wonder when i have my own kids if they would think "well mommy felt she needed to get rid of her nose and i have the same nose, maybe i should too." i guess in a sense this is hitting closer to home than just my cousin getting it done. breast implants lipo lip augmentation no biggie but if your kids have your nose and you change it because you don't like it that to me is different.

I understood what you meant, and I can't see how that COULDN'T be interpreted that way... It's as if saying...'You are beautiful.... But I have the same nose and I wanted to change it... but YOU'RE STILL beautiful..." Idon't know, it might be confusing especially for a child. Hopefully, the mom will have the lines of communication open for the daughters to talk about it, if they feel that way.

FTR: I'm not saying this is how the mom feels (what I had in quotes) but say... if I were one of the daughters, knowing MYSELF, that's how I would interpret it.

I don't think mom getting a nose job will give her kids a complex or make them self conscious.

I never understood why people get nose jobs(unless your nose is really horrible or u have breathing problems) In most cases they look so fake(which it is) and weird. It's not like you can't tell no matter how good the job is.

Re: nose jobs

I know alot of people who had nose jobs and other plastic surgery(s). Some were for medical reasons. But the others were to impove their appearance, self image or self esteem. Their looks made them feel uncomfortable, so they decided not to look that way anymore.
And now they feel better about themselves.
I am not saying that it is right or wrong,
it's just up to the individual.

People get nose jobs because they're unhappy with the way they look! Your nose is the focal point of your face and one of the 1st things that people notice!

And NO, not all nose jobs look fake! A good nose job is not noticeable at all!!! the problem is when people want the cookie cutter nose that doesn't fit their fit! A good surgeon will not allow that and will never promise the perfect lil cookie cutter nose, but instead give you a nose that fits your face!

I agree with this. Not all nose jobs look fake just the bad ones! Chat Icon

As for the OP - I think it could have an effect on her daughters, especially if they don't talk about it and act like nothing happened. If she's open with them and talks to them about it they may stand a chance of understanding - that is, if they're young.

If they're older, then yeah, I'm sure they'll understand. Who knows maybe they too want nose jobs, maybe they don't.

I think beauty is in the eye of the beholder so what this woman thought of as not attractive, maybe her kids will think nothing of it. KWIM?

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I was just going to say this. Sorry dediko, but that was a really ignorant comment.
Many people suffer from serious self-esteem issues due to the way they look. As Marie said, your nose is the focal point of your face.

And to piggyback on her point -- only bad nose jobs look fake. There are many many people who have nose jobs that you would never even know. And I wouldnt use the term "fake" when it comes to a nose job -- their noses are still real. Its not like an implant -- they use the original bone and cartilage. The nose is still real, its just augmented.

With that said, no, i dont think that a mother having a nose job would give her children a complex. I believe that she's an adult, making an adult decision. As long as she reminds her children that they are beautiful and promote their self-esteem, she's not doing anything wrong.

OK you know what that's JUST MY OPINION. Maybe I was little harsh and you don't have to agree with me but there is no need to insult me and call me ignorant(which in a way you did) I have been on this website for a while and never once have I insulted anyone for expressing there opinion. I just don't go that low.
Once again, what I posted above is just my opinion even if none on this board or in the world agrees with me and I am entitled to it.

No one called YOU ignorant!! She called your comment ignorant! You are without a doubt entitled to your opinion, but its an ignorant opinion nonetheless! You have prob walked past hundreds of people with nose jobs and would NEVER be the wiser!

Sorry if you took our comments as insulting- never intended it to be that way BUT your comment was VERY insulting- especially to those who have had a rhinoplasty/septoplasty!!!!

I think that although it's an inconvenient truth, the decision to have a nosejob sends a message to her children. It's 100% her choice to do it, but if the nose is that distinctive and the kids clearly have the nose, it will invariably send a message. I would not want to send that message myself, but it's her choice.

I didn't take your comment as insulting at all. Once again there is nothing wrong with someone disagreeing with me.

I don't come on here to stress or fight with people (which I know some people on here live for) . I come here to distress , relax and discuss issues that interest me, that's all.
