How many of you out there have pets....

I am soooooooooooooooo ******...

It is true I do have many animals.....

I have 3 cats and 1 dog.......

My house is really clean ...

The litter box is always cleaned and the dog is walked I sweep everyday and I brush the cats and dog at least once a week

I have an air filter and A SUPER VACUUM.....

Oh and by the way I live in a 3 bedroom 2 1/2 bath 2 balcony apartment.....

I mention this to show that we all have our space and we arent all in the same room...

EVERYONE is yelling at me...

You have to get rid of the dog!!!!!!!!!!

His barking will traumatize the baby...

He will try to kill the baby....

I have him for 7 years this April I got him from the shelter when he was 2 years old and he was so abused he doesnt even bark.....

He is gentle and loving and is not a threat to kids...

My niece rode her bike over his legs by accident and poor guy he just stayed there and took the pain not even a wimper....

My cats on the other hand have been with me forever one is 16, 9, and 2........

There is no way I can ever give them to a shelter or give them to someone....

People told me that the cats will suffocate the baby and that they may attack him... and because there are so many he wont stand a chance....

PLEASE I will never leave the baby unattended....

Please tell me how to tell them that they arent experts and to go tell to someone else...

Re: How many of you out there have pets....

I have 2 dogs and 2 cats. MyDH does the litter

My DH and I also raise guide dogs for Guiding Eyes for the blind some sometimes we have to "watch" a litter of puppies and the mom for a weekend or two or maybe house a few studs. SO we always have a full house.

I have allergies and I'm an asthmatic. We have all hardwood floors in the house that get swept every other day. My house is super clean.

As for out pets. They have been around my nephew from day 1 and are FANTASTIC with him!!!

I would NEVER get rid of my pets just because i'm having a baby!

People need to Mind their own buissiness and get over their ridiculous ideas!

Re: How many of you out there have pets....

My dog (a 2 yr old puggle) loves my son and would never do anything to harm him. I worried about my cat who was never the friendliest cat in the world and will bite if he is in "a mood" he has never done anything to my son. If DS hit the cat, grabbed the cat put his face in the cats face, the cat runs away. I grew up in a house with 120 lb golden retrievers my whole life.

That said, they are animals and you do have to be careful at all times, but I don't think that means tossing your animals out.

Luckily our immediate families are huge dog people. But those who don't have pets especially think we're crazy. I would NEVER get rid of my dog because of a new baby (only if they were allergic or aggressive which hopefully is not the case). In fact, its helps build a child's immune system. I swear, babies & pets have co-existed for years. Its so annoying!!

Re: How many of you out there have pets....

My DS (11 months) and my 4 year old mutt are the best of friends/partners in crime.
My Dog runs to DS every time he cries, she wont leave his side if we have company over that she doesn’t “know”, she plays hide and seek with him and walks through his laugh and learn house letting him close the door on her and “find” her.

The dog can bark and DS doesn’t even notice. He is immune to that sound as he has been hearing it for months prior to his own birth. We recently went on vacation without DS or our dog, let me tell you my DS was more excited to see Lucy than to see me or DH. He just thinks she is the greatest thing in the world!

DH and I both say that DS and Lucy are lucky to have other another to grow up with! It’s a gift to have a best friend like that!

Now if I thought for a minute that Lucy would hurt DS I would think hard about how to remedy that situation. But luckily for us Lucy has grown up with kids, she allows them to do whatever the please including hit her, take her food/toys.

PS, I have had a dog since birth as well and can’t imagine my life without a dog! in my 30 years of life, I have not had a dog for all of 7/8 months (not including being away at college) – I had a dog the day I was born, and DH and I got our first dog 4 months after we were married. And I am not traumatized or in any way worse off for it!

I have a cat and have no concerns about what will happen when baby comes. Pets add so much to lives of children, I can't imagine a family without one. Ignore what everyone is telling you.

I have a cat and I love her tremendously. However, I do worry about her when the baby comes. She's always been very aggressive and does not seem to like kids of any age. I worry we are going to have issues when the baby comes home.

Whenever our nephews come over, I have to sequester her to one room because she does lash out at them.

My cat has lashed out at other kids, but not at DS for some reason. Also the cat never goes in DS' room, once or twice he climbed in the stroller or up on the changing table or bouncy seat.

I volunteered at a shelter and have two cats. I have ZERO patience for people who suggest "getting rid" of a pet like they're a pair of shoes. People who are that heartless deserve to have their as*es thrown out on the street. If you're that damn selfish, you have no business adopting an animal in the first place. Adopting an animal is a lifetime committment and you don't just get to dispose of them when they no longer fit into your lifestyle. Don't people understand that animals have feelings and get attached to people?

Re: How many of you out there have pets....

I will admit DH and I are a little concerned about how our spoiled, needy brat of a Yorkie will tolerate a new baby in the house ......She is a yapper and is LOUD....But she is wonderful with kids and we have trained her from day one to be used to people poking at her and going near her food and playing 'roughly' w/ her - all of those things kids will inevitable do to a dog .......

The thought of GIVING HER AWAY has NEVER in a million years crossed our minds !! - And the ONLY people who would suggest such a thing are people who are not animal lovers and who have never cared for and loved a pet.

She's a part of our family the same way the new baby will be .......and yes, she is a dog and not a human being - but IMO any time a dog attacks a child the adult is to blame, NOT the animal. - Accidents happen, but even the MOST well behaved dog is still a dog w/ animal instincts - For as much as she is a good dog, I would never put her in a child's face or leave the room while the dog had access to the baby -

As far as the cats go ........I am not a cat person and cats creep me out -
I would never tell you to get rid of your cats ........but DO cats climb all over the crib and that kind of stuff? I would want to limit the cat's access to the baby the same way I'd limit the dog's .....

Re: How many of you out there have pets....

Tell them that you actually care about your DC, and are trying to prevent them from getting asthma... by having a dog, you are helping out their future, and it's a shame that these other people want your DC to have asthma....

http://www.bounty.com/Household-dog-could-prevent-asthma-development.news/18177010

Research into the effects of antibiotics on small babies has shown that there is a definite link between antibiotics and the development of asthma, though the presence of a household dog substantially lowered that risk.

http://astrology.yahoo.com/channel/health/thanks-fluffy-pets-may-help-prevent-asthma-and-allergies-for-kids-165731/
Childhood asthma could be curbed simply by having a pet in the house, a study from Sweden says. The findings -- which are clearly worth revisiting during this pollen-swarming, sneezy, snotty season -- found that infants who lived with a household pet were less likely to develop asthma and allergies later in childhood.

I have 3 cats and love them to death. Would NEVER get rid of them. People who aren't "cat people" or "animal people" for that matter, tend to say ignorant comments and I just ignore them.

I grew up with dogs and cats all my life. They didn't climb into my crib or hurt me or my 3 brothers either. People need to Mind Their Own Dang Business.

i have 3 dogs and a 13 month old.

they are all FINE!!!!!

don't worry about this. of course, you'll have to take special care when introducing the baby to the animals, because they can get stressed out in the beginning. FM me if you want to discuss this.

don't listen to anyone... you and your animals and your baby will be great! Chat Icon

Re: How many of you out there have pets....

I have one dog and have no intentions of getting rid of her. DH and I love her!!! She is fine with kids. Usually when the kids start getting too much for her, she goes and hides under someone's legs, or she lays on her back. She is a big mush!!!
I can't say I'm not worried about having a dog and a baby. It is going to be double the work. Especially since are dog is so spoiled right now. I'm not sure how she will do not being the center of attention. I'm also worried about the dog hair. I don't won't anything on the baby.

Re: How many of you out there have pets....

I have a 75 pound black lab who is amazing. My son is 19 months and they are best friends. At first my parents were very nervous about the dog being around the baby but we weren't. We put my son on a blanket on the floor at 3 days old and my dog went over and layed down right next to him. People who don't have animals just don't understand that they are our children also. You know your animals and that's all that matters.

We have a 2 1/2 year old dog and he isn't going anywhere. We've taught him that kids are the boss of him and he seems to get it. He's fine with our nieces and nephews. My niece even wrapped him up in a blanket recently and put a hat on him because he had to have surgery on his leg. Chat Icon

I wouldn't leave any kids unsupervised with him but I think it's going to be just fine.
