I guess if you can't afford a security system or don't plan to get one, it wouldn't hurt to do this, but I honestly can't see this deterring a criminial. I would think you are much better off turning on the lights or calling 911 quietly.

Very few people care about other people's car alarms anymore. In my neighborhood (and many others), nobody bothers looking if they hear an alarm...
They are way too common, and go off way too often for anyone to care about them....
I don't think it is so much that neighbors will react but it will startle the robbery or intruder and in may help.
Yeah, I will use anything I can God Forbid I am in that situation.
