No. I am not going to do it my ds. But do you think it will be safe for me to do it with an eight month old?

OKay..I am NOT judging..I am just curious. I have super straight boring hair, so have NO CLUE. I have heard of Japanese straightening, but you do it to babies? Does it make them less curly, or juststraight? I love curls, and was just surprised to see it done to little ones. Although my nephew has OUT OF CONTROL curls, so I can see the benefitChat Icon

Re: Japanese Hair Straightening and babies...

I think it's the Brazilian Hair Straightening that has the link to cancer due to formaldyhyde, not Japanese. I'm sure you'll both be fine!

Re: Japanese Hair Straightening and babies...

Do you mean do the straightening to a baby? Not doing it to your hair?

If it's for you. Yes, it's safe. Are you BFing?

Re: Japanese Hair Straightening and babies...

i got my touch up done when Landon was 2 months old. And I was bfing at the time, it is perfectly fine because the solution is not suppossed to toush your scalp. If you are bfing you can always be extra cautious and pump& dump.

Re: Japanese Hair Straightening and babies...

I read about the process..sounds harmless... are there any chemicals being used? from what I read, it looked like only intense heat and shampoo? Is that correct?

the brazillian is Chat Icon I still can't believe someone thought is was a good idea to pour formaldehyde on someones head Chat Icon In the lab, we handle formaldehyde with gloves and in a fume hood so we don't get exposed to any of the fumes. once we're done using it, the liquid is collected as 'hazardous waste'.
