Re: dish drainer/drying rack

i have no choice but to use one b/c we dont have a dishwasher Chat Icon DH keeps saying its not a "necessity" right now... i tell him maybe HE should wash the dishes more than never Chat Icon

anywho - this is the one we have... got it at target. i def reccommend a metal or stainless steal one rather than plastic... i felt that nasty mold & gook always used to accumilate on the plastic one. i've been using the metal drying rack for about 8 months now & it hasnt really rusted much at all... i'm very happy with it!!

Re: dish drainer/drying rack

You will absolutely need it, dishwasher or not.

Not everything is dishwasher safe.

Only other alternative would be laying a towel down to drain, but then you will have wet towels to dry.

Re: dish drainer/drying rack

We had that same one from target when we didn't have a dishwasher and it was great.

Now that we have a dishwasher, we just lay a towel down next to the sink for things that don't go in the dishwasher. Drying the towels isn't really a problem -- we just hand them over the handle on the stove... Or, if necessary, toss them in the wash.

Re: dish drainer/drying rack

I got a foldable chrome one from BBB, so when I'm not using it - I can just stick it under the sink.

Link to product - $13

edit b/c it's chrome plated and not SS

Re: dish drainer/drying rack

I have a dishwasher and a drainer rack - i just find that there are too many things that i wash by hand (pots/pans, random cutlery i need) to bother with having to put a towel or drainboard down everytime i need to wash something.
i agree, its not 'pretty' but i don't really care - my kitchen is supposed to be functional after all Chat Icon

i've had the metal ones lately, and i find they're a little nicer looking than the plastic ones. BB&B and Target have some more modern looking ones.

Re: dish drainer/drying rack

I still use one because we always have stuff that doesn't go into the dishwasher. I don't love the way it looks but it is easier than always dealing with the towels.

we had one before from Ikea, it was great, we can fold it and put it away when we're not using it. We broke it during our move, now we're using one that we got from the supermarket

I use towels but I dont think its a good idea on my granite countertops so I need to buy a drying rack.

Re: dish drainer/drying rack

I have a simple human dish rack. It's great! The plastic base can tilt into your sink to drain the water. I've had it for a year now & not had any problem with mold. Since you don't plan on geting a dryer soon, I'd invest on a good qlty one like simple human. I don't use my dryer either.

I have a Simple Human one, too - I AM the dishwasher in our house. This is the one we have. It was expensive, but it's compact, and EVERYTHING fits in it.
