to take a bath or not to take a bath...

that is the question? I read in books that its not safe for the fetus, and I do like my bath extra hot...hot water only. I havent taken one in about 3 weeks, and i miss it. When Im not feeling well it's so soothing. My best friend who posts on here said she takes baths all the time and did with her first DC. I dont know what to do?!?!?Chat Icon

Re: to take a bath or not to take a bath...

I was told baths were okay as long as the water was not hot.

ETA: I can barely get myself in and out of my bed, or off my couch, let alone trying to get myself out of a bathtub, so I don't even bother.

Re: to take a bath or not to take a bath...

I took baths everynight before bed, my whole pregnancy. I just made sure the water wasn't warmer than 100 degrees. Its not as rewarding as a HOT bath, but it helped. The doctor said it was fine, as long as its not Hot tub, hot. As long as you dont feel overheated in the tub, you will be fine

My OB said baths were fine, just no hot tubs. I still haven't taken one, though. I tend to err on the side of caution.

My doctors told me baths were perfectly fine - just to NOT use hot water - you shouldn't raise your body temperature. No hot tubs or saunas though. Just make sure if you take one it is warm not hot water. The problem is many people use too hot water.

I love hot baths on cold nights but I have been staying away from them and taking showers instead.

I will be the odd man out here and say i did take baths and they were hot. My Dr said I could. Basically by the time you feel too hot that is when its too hot for your babies so you get out then

Baths were told to be OK, you can't have them too hot...the risk is jacuzzis and hot tubs since they breed bacteria, baths are OK< and actually was recommended to me bc of my rib pain!!! Think about it, women give birth in baths for water births!!!

I took a few hot baths - not scorching but hot enough without being dangerous.

Re: to take a bath or not to take a bath...

i take them all the time, between the morning sickness i had, then the braxton hicks and now just being the size of a house and my joints hurting, i would freak without a bath! My little momma is kicking away and doing ok so my guess is that as long as it is not really hot, you are ok..take a warm one to not worry yourself..
No one told me not to..then again, i dont follow rules easily..i eat deli sandwhiches here and there too...
I am starting my 40th week and so done!

Re: to take a bath or not to take a bath...

I took baths almost every day during my recent pregnancy, I just didn't submerge my belly all the way and I always made sure the water was not hot. My doctor said it was fine. Just avoid jacuzzi/hot tubs.
