3 1/2 month old sleep ques.

This is my DD's sleep schedule...let me know what you think.

She goes down around 6 or 6:30. I have tried to lengthen it, but especially with Daylight Savings time, there is no keeping her up. She is cranky and very drowsy. She goes down almost the minute I put her in the crib, no rocking, etc. She then sleeps until around 1-2am which is 7-8 hours. I think that is really good, but not so good in terms of having to get up to feed her. She then sleeps until 5:15, which in about 5 weeks is the exact time that I will need to get up and get showered for work. I was hoping it would be more like 6 which would allow me time to get ready before feeding her.

What does sleeping through the night constitute? Is it 5 straight hours or 12-5?

Any tips/anyone have similar a similar sleep schedule for their infant?

I think that sounds great. Eventually hopefully she'll drop that 1am feeding. My DD goes to bed at 7 and sleeps til 6:30-7.
Your DD is still young so you should feed her..but once she gets a little older and you find her waking up you could try waiting her out a little bit and see if she falls back asleep without the feeding.

you are absolutely on the right track - eventually she will not be getting up for that 1-2 feeding.

My son will be 4 months in a week and he usually has his last feeding at 9:30pm and sleeps till about 3:30am (6 hrs) consistantly. I feed him 4ozs and then he sleeps for another 4hrs. It took about 2 weeks and alot of distracting him to finally move his bedtime back.

Re: 3 1/2 month old sleep ques.

At that age, DS was sleeping from 8 or so until 3ish, so about the same amount of time as your DD. Then it would increase little by little. Some nights he would wake at 5. After that, when he woke earlier than that, I would try to put him back to sleep without feeding him. If he kept fussing, I would feed him, but most nights he would go back to sleep. It didn't happen all at once, and even now, I knock on wood when saying DS sleeps through the night!
It sounds like you are doing the right thing. The only other thing I would suggest if you want to put her down later is maybe letting DD nap for an hour when she is that cranky, then waking her and keeping her up for another hour or so before putting her down for the night. I used to do this with DS so that he would be able to spend a little time with DH when he got home from work.Good luck!

DS sleeps until about 7am. He goes down around 7:30/8 pm and then I wake him around 10 for his last bottle. If I don;t wake him at 10 for that ladt bottle he wakes at 4 am. (Ds is 5 months old)

Re: 3 1/2 month old sleep ques.

this sounds a lot like my DS (although he is only 2 1/2 months).

no matter how much he naps (or doesn't) he is exhausted by about 6:30, 7pm and cries until we put him to bed. most nights he sleeps until at least 3:30am, i am trying to extend that to 4:30, 5am with some success. in the past 2 weeks he has been able to sleep 9 or 10 hours straight without waking for a feeding so i know he can do it. because of this, although i don't do CIO, i also will not go into his room at night unless he is really crying - not fussing, but full on crying. i have found that most nights if he wakes up at 1am or 2am, he is not actually hungry - and will fuss (sometimes loudly) for a while and then fall asleep on his own.

i don't know if that would work for you, but it helped me, knowing that he didn't actually NEED to eat - he was just waking up (most likely) out of habit.

but yes, at this age, i agree that sleeping 7-8 hours is considered sleeping through the night.

also, have you thought about feeding her at 9 or 10pm? maybe she will sleep longer that way. i know some mommies do something like that, i think it's called dreamfeeding?

5 hours for a bf baby is actually really good! BF babies digest faster and in general need to eat more often.

My DD is almost 4 months and she goes to sleep at 9:30-10:30 and does not wake up for a feeding until 6 AM. She takes two to three naps during the day as well.

Re: 3 1/2 month old sleep ques.

my twins are 4.5 months they eat at 7 and are sleeping at 730 and wake at 7.

one month ago when they were the age you are inquiring about they ate at 7 were sleeping by 8 and went thru until 630/7am but at 1030/11pm i gave them a feeding while they were sleeping. it varied between .5 oz and 4 oz depending on the baby or the night---they usually didnt wake up and it kept them all night. loosing the middle of the night feed was amazing and it happened around 2.5 months. since they are twins they were alittle smaller than single babies and couldnt previously eat enough b.c their stomachs were too small.

if possible i wold try to get your dd to nap more during the day to keep her up past 6pm. i think sleeping through the night is 12 hours but i guess it is different for each child. Good luck!

Re: 3 1/2 month old sleep ques.

MY DS was born around the same time as your DD

He goes to bed at 8 and sleeps up until anytime between 6-7! I would love to get him to bed earlier, but his bedtime is 8 oclock for now

We used to put him to bed at 930, then every other night we moved his bedtime back half an hour to get him to sleep better. He has been sleeping from 8-6 or 7 ofr over a month now! Its great!

It doesn't sound like you are doing anything wrong by what everyone else is saying. I may do a dream feed (which is what your DD probably is doing at 9:30), then my DD wakes also 1x in the middle of the night.

What are you beside yourself about the 3:30 feeding? I too BF and I think that is part of why she wakes up b/c BM is not as heavy as formula.

During the day she is generally up for 1 1/2-2 hours and then goes down for a nap, only 45 min. though unless we are out and about and then it can last 3 hours in her car seat! I wish she could nap like that in her crib!
