Calling the pediatrician?
How soon before my due date am I supposed to contact the pediatrician?
What do I say when I call? Hi...I'm pregnant and need a pediatrician?
I know I am using the pediatric group in Bayside on Corporal Kennedy but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to say so I don't sound like an idiot!

Re: Calling the pediatrician?
You call and say Im pg, and looking for a pediatrician. I would like to meet with Dr.SoandSo for a consult.
I suggest doing this by around 32weeks, in case you need to interview a few.

Re: Calling the pediatrician?
It sounds like maybe you already picked someone and don't plan to interviewing them. If so I would call and say you are pregnant and were referred to them and make sure they are accepting new patients and ask what you would do to arrange for them to see your child when she/he is born or if they aren't affiliated with the hospital when they would see your DC after they are home from the hospital.
If you want to interview them - I would call around 30 weeks or so -b.c it can take a little while to get a consult - and in case you don't like them you will have time to find someone new in case your DC makes an early appearance.

Definitely choose who will be the doctor in the hospital b/c if you don't have one they will assign one and they may not necessarily be on your insurance plan. Having said that, my pediatrician is not affiliated with the hospital where I delivered. I chose a doctor that my Ob recommended for the in-hospital care.
With the regular pediatrician, I got a recommendation from a friend. I didn't interview the ped before hand. I figured if I didn't care for him that we could always switch. It worked out fine. If you want to do it that way, just call the ped's office and tell them when you are expecting and that you'd like to use their practice if they are accepting new patients.
