Spinoff to Glucose Test-- Taking the test

This is my next appt, and based on posts I had seen on here-- I thought I needed to fast or something for the 1 hour.

The instructions say I do not, and I can eat a normal breakfast, etc.

I don't want to do anything to jeopardize my results-- so, based on your experiences, what should I do the day before and the morning of in terms of what I eat?

I don't eat a lot of sugar anyway, but, I do want to ensure my results are good!

Definitely follow the diretions they give you. Fasting can actually cause a glucos surge and show higher numbers.

Just eat a sensible breakfast with not a lot of sugar

Re: Spinoff to Glucose Test-- Taking the test

I hear such differing things. The instructions I got with my drink this morning at my appointment says I need to fast for 5 hours prior. I've scheduled my appointment for first thing in the morning so I don't have to worry about not eating.

I would go by this advice.

When I took my one hour ( it was sprung on me early in the pregnancy due to family history), I failed.

I had not eaten at all that morning or too late in the evening the night before. This was purely coincidence and not intentional.

I could not believe I failed. I went on to take the three hour and passed. I actually have to take the three hour again soon.

So I say all this to say, that I truly believe fasting may have skewed my results.

Re: Spinoff to Glucose Test-- Taking the test

Thanks-- my appt is at 9 AM, but I will need to leave here by 8 to get there in time, and if I didn't eat-- I'd be STARVING after the test was over.

I usually just have some cereal for breakfast, so I guess that should be fine.

ita, i was going to say the samething.
for the 1 hour, you do not have to fast.
have breakfast but make sure it's about 2 hours before your appt. nothing loaded with sugar...

i had a grilled cheese with no butter for breakfast, then i had an apple about an hour before my appt. and failed my 1 hour by 1 point. i think it was the apple that put me over the top...didn't know what the protocol was for the 1 hour test..

anyhow, i had to take the 3 hour test and fast for 8 hours ( took the test early in the morning)..
waiting to see the results...

good luck!!

Re: Spinoff to Glucose Test-- Taking the test

Due what your doctor told you to do.. I ate normal before my test... just dont eat a candy bar right before... I would eat what you would normally eat for breakfast and lunch and snacks pending on your appt time... The only thing that might increase #'s is if your on your way and eat candy...

Good Luck

Re: Spinoff to Glucose Test-- Taking the test

You should follow your drs instructions. I was told not to eat after midnight the day before, but my appt was at 7, so it wasn't too difficult.

Re: Spinoff to Glucose Test-- Taking the test

It really depends on where you're taking it. I took it at Quest labs. I could have water, but I wasn't allowed to eat before the test. Another woman came in for the glucose test and since she ate breakfast that morning, they wouldn't allow her to take the test that day.
