Biden.

Palin did not answer any questions, unless it was 20 minutes later. And even then, it wasnt a good answer.

Agreed. She didn't answer the questions at hand.

I will say, however, they did prep her well and she brought energy, but she also didn't say anything really substanstial.

Re: Who Won The Debate?

Of interest to me is the fortitude in which people make their electoral decisions. In another post I found a quote of someone who voted here on this poll. Without being accusatory, does anyone else think this is an epidemic? Here's the quote:

But then again I was watching and talking to my friend about the debate the whole time.

I mean, how can you determine if someone 'won' if you spent more time talking than listening? What if you missed some critical information (or lack thereof in this specific voteChat Icon ).

Re: Who Won The Debate?

Biden by far.....IMO as far as Palin- just because she didn't sound like an idiot as she did in previous interviews, that does not mean she WON....anyone who thinks she won probably thinks so b/c they really want to like her and she didn't further dig the hole she was in with her previous answers. So the fact the world was watching and she didn't stammer through her speech makes her supporters happy- however it does not mean she actually answered all of the questions asked by the moderator. I will admit it was a success for the McCain campaign in that she didn't make things WORSE Chat Icon

Biden made me like him. Palin made me not cringe when she opens her mouth.

I don't think anyone "won."

Biden definitely. He could offer substantial answers to the question. Palin did okay, but her main achievement was not embarassing herself. That's not enough for the VP.

Too many cutesy little sayings from her also, but that's neither here nor there. I think she did as well as she could, but it still isn't enough.

I watched the debate while talking on AIM and LIF. Then, this morning I read the transcripts. I prefer to read my information - I retain it better. The only reason I watch is to catch nuances like facial expression and tone.

Re: Who Won The Debate?

Although Palin exceeded the expectations that many had of her (myself included), just because she was able to partake in a debate and not mess up does not mean that she won by far.
Biden won in my opinion. Besides bringing up great points and being able to fully defend his stance on issues, his closing statement left me really loving him.

ETA: But to be fair, i think that both parties feel that their candidate came out victorious in the debate.

I think Palin did better than people thought she would do - but some of her blunders (I've only been doing this for 5 weeks - what a way to instill confidence!) were pretty bad.

That was not what she said. I believe the question was of all of the promises they had made (Palin and Bidden) which ones will you have to take back bc of the bailout) and that is when she said, remember i have only been campaigning for 5 weeks meaning she doesnt have 2 years of promises to take back.

I might not answer the questions the way you want me to. . .

So what are you saying your not going to answer the questionsm, just start going on a rampage of rehearsed topics, Totally turned me off...

Biden di well, at least most of the time he answered the questions at hand directly!!! So I believe he won...

Re: Who Won The Debate?

Biden, his answers were clear & concise and he actually answered the questions. I think the best moment in the debate for him was when he got emotional when talking about the accident that killed his wife & daughter and almost killed his son. That one moment made him more human and more real.
Palin wasn't as bad as I thought that she was going to be. She really answered questions and yes she did keep going back to energy even when the topic was health care. I don't think that she was as prepped as she could have been. One of the things that got me was before the debate even started when she said "Can I call you Joe?". To me that showed disrespect towards Biden.

I just dont understand how her ASKING if she can call him Joe is disrespectful BUT Obama just calling McCain "John" the entire debate is him following an informal debate format.

They are both younger than the other - and while they may not be "equals" they are equals in the debate in the fact that they are both VP candidates.

ETA: I don't think that either candidate should have used first names - not a fan.

Re: Who Won The Debate?

I say Biden.

I don't really love either ticket for different reasons. To me, it was overwhelmingly clear how inexperienced Palin is. she did better than I thought she would, but she was giving sound bites and rehearsed answers and he was giving examples of passed legislation and voting records.

Biden knows McCain's voting record better than Palin does, and that was clear last night.

She also lost me with the winking and the overzealous smiling. I said to DH, "does she want to sleep with him or debate him? She's flirting with Biden and the cameras."

Just my 2 cents. Chat Icon

ETA: I also think she needs to also cut down on the use of the word "also." Chat Icon And the "darn right!", "joe 6 pack" and "hockey mom" terms annoy me as well.

I'm not altogether disagreeing with you - the "I've only been at this for 5 weeks" was the first part of her response to the "what are you going to cut from your budget" question - but I also thought it was a ridiculous answer - she's running on McCain's ticket - the question was what were she and McCain (and by extension Biden and Obama) going to cut from McCain or Obama's budget now that we have to pay for the bailout. It wasnt a question asking Palin what she would cut from her budget - it was what she and McCain were going to cut from the McCain budget.

Using the excuse that "I've only been at this for 5 weeks" as an answer about the budget of your ticket is a weak attempt to avoid answering.

Biden.

No question.

Palin did alot better than I thought she would but not nearly good enough to have won. Her inexperience shone through.

even republican pundits gave it up to Biden, so I don't think it's about who's side your on.

Ideally, we are all on the side of the people, and making a choice based on who is best for the job, and not necessarily who's "team" we are on.... and they should be proving it to us EVERY DAY, until the election and then far after.

Re: Who Won The Debate?

My nonpartisan answer? Neither. And, I think this debate was less about "who won" and more about "what do they think, who are they?"

I am tired of listening to the media telling ME who Biden and Palin (and for that fact Obama and McCain) are and what they stand for. I want to hear it from them and then I'll make MY decision based on what I think, not what they tell me to think.

I'm glad I had a chance to listen to both of them.

I think both did well, but now I'm ready to see real action.

Agreed. The debate between McCain and Obama was less clear cut to me--both did well I would say, maybe McCain slightly better at times, though his cranky demeanor seemed to put people off.

For the VP debate, it was definitely Biden. How did Palin win, I'm curious? By changing the question whenever she felt like it and giving lots of cute sound bites? She did not embarass herself, but she did not display that she has the knowledge or experience to be VP. Biden did, she did not.
