Pediatrician Recs? Near Northport
When do I need to start looking for a pediatrician?
Does anyone have any recommendations? We are in East Northport but are willing to travel 20 mins or so for a good Dr.
Thanks.

You might want to cross post this on parenting if you haven't already since a lot of the girls on this board probably haven't had experience with a ped yet
We use Commack Pediatric Partners in Commack on 347 - they might be a bit far for you, but they are great. I know a lot of the other girls on here use them and are happy with them as well. FM me if you have any questions. If you do a search for them, you should find a ton of posts.

Hi there (im lurking)...
I am also in East Northport. I delivered at Huntington. I use Huntington Pediatrics (Dr. Gerberg and Dr. Sheehy). LOVE them. After DS was born one of these Dr.s was at my bedside very early every AM giving me updates on DS. FM me if you want more info.

Is the pediatrician supposed to go to the hospital when the baby is born?
Everything is a little fuzzy from when I had my son...it was so long ago

thanks everyone! My DS started going to Dr McDonough at HMG when we first moved her, but so are not really happy with him and my son doesn't like him. So I am looking for him too.

They ask you if you have a pediatrician selected. If you do, your ped will go to the hospital to check out the baby. If you don't (and I didn't as I was 6 weeks early with my son), the staff doctor at the hospital will be the one checking the baby out.
I've been through several pediatricans One I had billing issues with (2 insurance companies), another didn't take my insurance. We've only seen McDonagh (sp?) on walk-in appointments. I was seeing another doctor at the HMG & had an emergency where my 2 week old needed to be hospitalized on a holiday weekend. Dr. Cavanagh was on call. When I mentioned to him that the nurse didn't wash her hands before taking a tube out of Maddie, he handled it immediately & very professionally. He called me a few times on his day off after we were out just to check to see how Maddie was doing. I never went back to anyone else for appointments.
He really is great. I can't see enough great things about him.
