Finding out the gender ......

Sometimes I feel like the moms who are waiting can be judgmental of the moms who wants to find out. I've had someone said to me that by me finding out the gender just ruins the whole point of pregnancy.

I personally think it's a choice, one only you and your SO can make, and by going either route doesn't make the big day any less exciting.
I applaud those moms who can wait till D-day, I for one need to know, it's just the way I am.

I hope I don't get flamed for this, not trying to start any debates! Chat Icon

Re: Finding out the gender ......

I feel ya, but I am on the other end. We are not finding out. I really want to know, but my DH does not want to. It is really important to him to keep it a surprise. So out of respect for him I am not finding out.

I cannot tell you how many people have questioned this decision and blatantly told me I was making a big mistake my not finding out. The NERVE, I tell ya.Chat Icon

The decisions people make during their pregnancy are personal choices and should be respected.

Re: Finding out the gender ......

On a related note, I think people in general tend to cross the line with their personal opinions about anything and everything when it comes to pregnancy and children in general in regards to what is right and what is wrong.

In the end though, the RIGHT way is what feels right for you and your family.

Really - thats ridiculous, what does that even mean?

I think a lot of people tend to be judgemental about opinions that aren't the same as theirs. But that doesn't mean they should make hurtful/stupid comments.

I always said I didn't want to find out the sex of my baby. Once I got pregnant, I changed my mind. Now that I know, I don't regret it it at all - it was so exciting to find out at the sono and to tell everyone. I don't agree with the "only true surprise in life," its a surprise whether you find out before or at the birth. We did choose not to share the names, I am excited about revealing that at the birth, and even more so about seeing and holding these little miracles that are growing inside of me. Knowing the gender ahead of time won't take away from that moment at all.

Well thats just ridiculous and insane!!

I posted on the other thread (I am one of those people not finding out) but I stated more than once that it's just my opinion and I realize that many people feel differently which I totally respect and understand! I can completely understand the wanting to know so you can prepare and decorate!

DH and I didn't want to find out but I wouldn't criticize anyone who wanted to. All my friends found out early and they were very excited to find out when did. For myself I just know it wouldn't be as exciting as waiting for the big day but that's me and to each his own. It's a personal choice. I don't find that anyone on the board is critical of those who want to find out early, most everyone supports each person's decision. Just my opinion. Chat Icon

OK, that is so stupid -- so the whole point of pregnancy is to have the gender announced in the delivery room and if it is announced in the sono room instead, there is no point in having the baby???? Chat Icon

I found out gender with DS and will again. I loved knowing a little Chat Icon was growing inside of me and could never have gone the whole pregnancy calling the baby "it."

Don't sweat it. People get stupidly judgemental over many things related to childbirth/child rearing. I strongly suggest you decide now to make your own decisions and let other people's comments roll off you -- you will be a happier mother that way!

To each their own.....someone will always feel differently and voice it. It is too bad that people are so judgmental. Waiting works for us but I know that's not for everybody; I would never judge someone that chose to find out.

For us it's more about the bonding, DH and I want to be able to start calling the baby by name. The preparation and decorating really are just secondary, but it definitely makes things a bit easier.

Re: Finding out the gender ......

You know I was thinking about this - its kind of like the people who take wedding pictures before the ceremony and people who want the first time they see each other to be walking down the aisle. Every couple has their own reasons for doing it their way, and both sides should be respected by one another.

seriously JMO

I can care less what others say. I have heard co-workers give their opinons on not finding out vs. finding out.

I want to know because for me personally its torture for me to go all those months and DH wants to know also.

I can't keep secrets and I am a BIG SNOOPER

I'm fairly sure that the point to pregnancy is to grow a new life... not to create some sort of temporary suspense to amuse the family.......

To each their own... DH and I are too impatient to wait... but I appreciate why other couples may want to be surprised.

Re: Finding out the gender ......

Yeah, when I even mentioned that I was thinking of finding out, some people got so judgemental. I want to wait, but I wouldn't be upset if I found out. I don't think finding out the gender ruins your whole Pregnancy, that is just crazy. It's a baby and I think that is surprise enough.

We decided to not find out. I was expecting a lot of negative comments, but have been pleasantly surprised by the reactions.

I don't know why people feel the need to share their opinions, especially when it comes to pregnancy and child rearing. Don't listen to the ridiculous comments. Chat Icon

This was our same reason as well. I loved being able to call the baby by name while there in my belly..Even now Im on #3 and my oldest talks to his sister in my belly 10 times a day..He even introduces his sister to be to everyone..That makes it special to me and everyone has something that makes there pregnancy special to them..
