I think this is a great idea for an anonymous poll, I think it may be eye opening to some posters.

I agree, I know we did this like 2 years ago and the poll results were surprising to some

Voted!

ETS: I've never had one but can think of at least 5 or 6 people I know who have told of having one (which means there is probably that many more people I know who have kept it private)

Wow, I have to admit, I am a little suprised! No judgment whatsoever, but suprised. I just don't personally know many people who have had one - actually, only one person, and she was my brother's girlfriend.

I'm not surprised at all. I think that most of us know quite a few people who have had abortions- but they choose to not discuss it.

So not surprised. When I was in highschool I knew MANY. Not so much anymore. And that's exactly why I waited to have sex.

I voted. I actually have no knowledge of anyone who's had an abortion - friends may kepe it quiet.

I do have family who had a baby at 18 and gave it up for adoption.

I agree with this... It's not like women are "proud" of having to make that decision.

Re: I was thinking about the recent abortion debates...an anonymous poll...

Yes, I voted.

I am not ashamed to say I had an abortion. I was 18 years old and it was the right decision for ME.

Was it THE most difficult decision I've EVER had to make and live with? YES.

Do I regret it? NO.

Would I ever do it again? NO. But my situation now is VASTLY different from my situation THEN. I know for sure if I had been dating my husband at the time, we would have kept the baby. I know this b/c we've talked about it.

I felt as someone who HAS lived through this FIRST HAND I would share my experience and maybe give some REAL insight to this debate.

I'm sure there will be some of you who will read this and draw your own conclusions about me and that's fine. You have every right to do this; but just know there are A LOT of girls out there living this and who knows, you just might know one of them.

If anyone has a question, feel free to ask, I will answer it the best I can.

Re: I was thinking about the recent abortion debates...an anonymous poll...

My mom had an abortion.

I was the only one born at term. My mom had pregnancy issues. At 6 months, all my other siblings wanted out. My sister after me was born at 7.5 months and was put in an incubator. We are 15 months apart. My mom got PG right after my sister was born and gave birth the following year to a baby boy at 6.5 months. He died 3 days later in the hospital. For some reason, she got PG again (talk about accidents after accidents). The OB told her not to have the child. My mom's body and mental state were not ready for it. She most likely would have lost the baby again. Since it would have been her 4th pregnancy in 3 years (with 3 being actual birth). Her body could not do it. Her state of mind was not there. She had just lost my brother, worked FT, did all the stuff in the house (my father never helped), my sister and I were toddlers and she had depression from the loss of a baby. She did it when it was still illegal to do it in France.

She waited 8 years. Then she had my 2nd sister and my brother 6 years later.

Re: I was thinking about the recent abortion debates...an anonymous poll...

I'm not surprised by the #'s.

My sisters are both in college and they both have friends who have had abortions..one girl in particular had 3. My sister is no longer friends with her because like she said, at this point its birth control and my sister has zero tolerance for the behavior. She is a nice girl who is very very naive and has very low self esteem....It's a sad situation all around.

That poor girl... it's too bad your sister couldn't have helped her to see how dangerous her behavior is.

If her self esteem is that low, I'm sure losing a friend didn't help her.

I can't imagine using abortion as a method of BC.

I have to be honest, I think the whole"using abortion as BC" is the exception not the rule. I would think that after going through it once, most women go to great pains to never have to repeat the decision.

Voted.

One of my former BFF's had 3. 2 were for medical reasons.

Honestly I'm not surprised either. I think it's more common than we think.

I only know one person who has had two but she has gotten pregnant six times in her life - and still says that her dream in life is to have a *planned* pregnancy.
