At what age was your child able to ride a tricycle...
unassisted?
meaning...you didn't need to push them, they could pedal all by themselves....

ETA: I don't know if her bike is just "stiff" or not---Em will be 3 in October and she has a hard time pedalling her trike.

Re: At what age was your child able to ride a tricycle...
We bought Kate a princess tricycle for her birthday on Sunday--so I don't know exactly how she'll be; however, she seemed to do pretty well on her little friend's bike--although she was mostly going backward!!

Re: At what age was your child able to ride a tricycle...
My DS #1 never really rode a trike - he wasn't skilled enough when he was small and by the time he was a little bigger, he just graduated to a bike with training wheels. My DD has been doing it for as long as I can remember on other kids trikes. I never got her one, she got a 2 wheeler with training wheels last Spring and she turned 3 last summer. I think a trike is harder, the wheels are so small and if they have long legs, it's even harder. Maybe your DD is ready for a 12 inch 2 wheeler?

DD is 2 1/2 and she can cycle her trike - she has a little trouble steering but she has mastered the pedals but this is a child who despite her small frame would attempt to lift me off the ground - seriously she is really really strong for her age - at least I think so.

Logan was able to ride a tricycle when he was 2. My mom just bought him this bike for his 3rd bday and he whips around on....he looks like kermit the frog when he rides Image Attachment(s):

Bella doesn't have the leg strength/coordination to pedal the bike...she can with a little push now, but at the beginning of the summer she couldn't even do that.

Re: At what age was your child able to ride a tricycle...
DS is just turning 2 1/2. He can pedal by himself just fine, but he is a madman when it comes to steering, so I have to use the push bar mainly to keep him from crashing into every curb, car, etc.

Re: At what age was your child able to ride a tricycle...
Jenna got a trike at her 2nd birthday and mastered it in a few days-at 3 she mastered a bike with training wheels and now at 4 we have started taking the training wheels off sometimes to let her practice on 2 wheels.

Miranda is just barely starting but she's short so reaching the pedals is an issue.
