At what age did your child move from a toddler bed to a twin bed?

In looking for a crib, I was thinking about how long I might have between children and whether or not to get a fully convertible crib. So, my question is, at what age did you child move from the crib set up as a toddler bed, to a twin bed? Also, when you made that switch, did you put up a safety rail on the twin bed so the child wouldn't roll out? Thanks!

Aidan was just under 22 months when we set up his twin bed and got rid of the crib.

He just wouldn't stop climbing in and out and often would curl up on the floor with his "friends" and sleep there.

We got a bed rail as seen below, to keep him from rolling out.
He slept in it from the very first night!

If we didn't have baby #2, I think Andrew would still be in his crib (he's 2-1/2). However, since baby #2 arrived when he turned 2, we moved him to his own room in a toddler bed at 22 months. He'll most likely be in the toddler bed until he is 4, when his sister will be 2 and she'll need the toddler bed.

We bought a convertible crib and paid big $$ for it, but I doubt we will ever convert it.
